Single Sub Position
BTW, it's always good to check out the AM Acoustics free room mode simulator.  It can help you find places to sit and put your speakers.
KEF ref 1 vs. ref 1 meta
@audiotroy - Potato potatoe. Revealing of an amplifier’s current delivery is not the same as revealing of an amps musicality. But, since a gauntlet of sorts has been thrown, I offer a link to measurements. Regardless of how you word these speake...
Should I replace the crossover capacitors in my vintage AR 3a speakers?
OP: Honestly the issue I brought up is rare, but when it happens it really messes with people who don't understand why their new fancy caps made the speaker severely change character.  It's worth doing a full impedance simulation for this reason...
KEF ref 1 vs. ref 1 meta
I’m not sure about the Ref 1, but the Meta is an incredibly, measurably hard to driver speaker. I think it has equivalent dissipation factor of around 1 ohm near the bass, possibly (this is conjecture) by an overly aggressive impedance correction ...
Should I replace the crossover capacitors in my vintage AR 3a speakers?
Only as a learning exercise. Be careful replacing parts that are in parallel to the driver as the old parts may have ESR that is part of the design. That’s actually true for all caps and coils but the one’s in parallel can cause unexpected impeda...
Single Sub Position
Single sub, with bass traps and EQ can often be fantastic.  We are often limited in not having great sub locations, or not wanting to add bass traps or EQ, so we get what we can. Another, often overlooked solution is to dampen bright rooms.  A re...
McIntosh MC611 vs Parasound JC5
Hey ToothDoc! Well,  for my money you are going in a particular direction and without meaning to offend, to me has too much treble information.  The Mc goes that way as well. So personally, I'd stick with JC amps... but if you honestly want MORE...
Need help: Tannoy or B&W?
Um, what?? I wouldn't buy either unless you had heard them.  I mean, I have a strong preference, but because they sound so dissimilar. I'd say if you can't hear either skip them and stick to things you can listen to.
Arcam AVR Receivers
I really like the sound of ARCAM in general.
DH Labs
If you can make your own I really like the OEM pure silver cables from Parts Connexion.  Otherwise I use Mogami in assemblies by World's Best.  What both share is completely not there.  No colorations or loss of any kind.  Sorry I haven't heard N...
Seeking speakers under $3K for 10x12 ft room and driven by 20wpc tube amp
Fritz is a great choice!! Like a lot of 2-way monitors, they do best in reasonably well treated rooms.  More reflective rooms will tilt the balance towards the treble.  To really hear them shine at least a little absorption around the room will re...
Impedance question
Hey there! In the case of multi-way speakers, so long as you have a low and high pass filter the impedances are not in parallel. However, if you only have a high pass filter and the 12" woofer is full range then the impedance above the cap cut of...
Luxman 505z
I haven’t heard them, but given the small incremental differences from Luxman in the past:  I’d consider a 508 or 509 as a more worthwhile upgrade, even if older series. The additional devices in the output stages can make the amp perform better w...
Faint buzz in speakers
PS- Modern dimmers, including smart dimmers are not noisy the way the old one's were, mechanically or electrically.  You certainly can have remote controlled mood lighting in your listening room.
HT bypass -[ which RCA Interconnect
My other recommended brand is World's best with Mogami, though they also make versions with Canare. Used Mogami a great deal in theater installations as well as at home.
