Ayre VX-5 Twenty vs. Pass X 250.8
I did a search for threads on this comparison, and that was the most recent that matched. My local dealer carries Ayre, although isn’t stocking much any more. He just took in a vx5 twenty on trade for a D’Agostino, and hasn’t even received it yet,...
Ayre VX-5 Twenty vs. Pass X 250.8
Holy thread resurrection, Batman, but I’m in the same position. Looking for input on comparisons between these 2 amps. hybrid system H/T and 2 channel for now, with a future likelihood of having a separate listening room. Right now the ‘pre’ is m...
Sabrina X Amp Suggestions
My local dealer where I go to dream has the Wilsons hooked up with the Dagostino integrated and a Luxman CD player, and it sounded heavenly. He also has Ayre and AR. I’m not familiar with Wilsons speakers, but they were $19K retail. I don’t play i...
How many people here generally buy used?
My a/v processors/receivers I’ve bought new, as discontinued items when the new versions came out. Speakers were new demos I bought at lower $$ then used were selling for at the time, my Oppo 205 I bought from the last run they did, when MSRP was ...
Review on Coda Technologies 16 Amplifier went live today
As the saying goes, everything’s relative. I added up my total outlay on my system, over time, and it equals about that one amplifier’s price. But 15 years ago I’d never have believed I’d spend as much as I have. Or that I’d be able to. We won’t e...
Opinions on the current market
I agree to a point. It’s impossible to hear everything first, and doubly so to hear everything, in my system, before buying. I’m going to have to take a risk and theoretically, multiple risks. The first piece I buy may improve my SQ, but still not...

Can’t argue with that, Ralph. Plus with all our extra time, it gives more time to nitpick the system and look for reasons to upgrade:). Having said that, I’m in auto service, so aside from a few extra days off I’ve been working right along....
6H30 tubes vs the others
thanks for the input, keep it coming. I’m seeing so far that it’s like any other tube in that some like the sound some don’t. Tube rollers would inherently stay away, because they can’t change the sound. I don’t plan to roll tubes, although I once...

@chorus. I was going to dutifully ignore your first rule, but in fairness to myself, I’ve been looking/reading/researching since just before the lockdown. Actually, probably a month before, since I had a few weekends when I relistened to a PL EVO4...
6H30 tubes vs the others
Microphonics is the vibration of the tube’s glass, which introduces itself into the signal?is that the purpose of the damper rings I see around some tubes? You’re saying it’s more of an issue on 6H30’s more than other tubes?

Wants/needs list:remoteHT bypass (although I can get around it, and may do that since I’m also concerned about ‘burning up’ tube life when the system is in tv/movie watching mode, and most but NOT all pres require the pre is on for bypass to work)...
Luxman dealers
HiFi buys in Atlanta is a Luxman dealer, and a better group of guys you could never hope to meet. I’ve known Al 20 years, and most of his guys have been with him many of those years.

@Ihasaguy I’ve noticed that, but for some reason I’ve never been interested in Mac. I have a dealer close, and aside from their setup that used the OMG Sonus Fabers in a huge room with the biggest amps, a system that cost more than my house, I’ve ...

Wow, you have been busy! I can’t claim any knowledge/opinions on any of that gear, except by reputation. I’m glad to see you’ve got the hard work (mostly) behind you, so you get off the computer and in the listening chair - hope yo u got a comfy o...

Isochronism, nice RE-write:) @hilde45, I’d been watching your thread, interested in the outcome, but missed where you ended up with the QS. Enjoy!! You put in a lot of work to get there :) My old lazy butt requires a remote though
