Chair or Sofa? Which do you use? You have got to do the sofa. Whether it is romance or sleep or kids over to your house, the sofa is infinitely better than the chair. Think long term. good luck, mike.
best pre/pro under $5,000 the krell deal is a good one. If you want to go in another direction, i can second the ead recommmendation. Easy to set up and very musical. good luck. Mike.
best monitor available? eldragon, and zaikesman, in addition to being a lizard, a monitor also means advisor in latin. On the topic of advice, I am surprised that there are very few other names tossed about, but perhaps that means that I am going to audio extremes here. ...
Mark Knopfler's Ragpickers Dream-heard it? I also agree with Rd. Can't say i enjoyed the ragpickers dream. I bought it and dropped it out of rotation quickly. He can do much better and has.
Which Totem is better: Mani-2 or Forest? I clearly think the mani 2 is a better speaker, but it depends on two things. The first is what type of amp you have and the second is whether you have the room for a stand as opposed to a floor stander. I have the mani 2, but I would easily go wi...
krell hts 7.1 or meridian 568v2? Stewart, thanks for your thoughtful input. Do you find the Meridian "digital"? One of the reasons I am moving away from the Lexicon is a belief-perhaps misguided-that I can do better in terms of smoothing out the overall sound with a better digita...
Speakers that leave room to upgrade front-end I agree with Danlevy. You would be well served with Hawks, or Forests from Totem used. They can live with your amplification and will really improve with a better amp like a bryston. Also, they work well close in and against walls and are an excel...
are Red Rose speakers any good? They are surprisingly good, but extremely sensitive to surrounding equipment. As indicated by others, they really do well with all tube front end, and nowhere near as good with solid state. Do not ask me why. ML demo's with sacd from sony as well.
Proceed Amp 5 or EAD PowerMaster 1000? Having had both, I would strongly advise the ead. I do not know your speakers, but with both Totem and Revel, I found the Ead to be both smoother, and somewhat better dynamics. Clearly, this is system dependent, but imho the ead is a better amp, a...
Bryston vs. Plinius Sean, the mani2 is a 4 ohm speaker and very tough to drive according to people who are smarter than I. Mike
Bryston vs. Plinius that would be the 8200 p. thx
How good are the Harbeth 40's? Sdcampbell, thanks a lot. I have sent Charlie an email and will keep you up to date. Thanks also to Mike and paulwp.
Receiver vs Processor I think foreverhifi is right given your preference for ht. With a music bias, my experience is quite different, but a strong receiver in ht can be more than good. Good luck.
Best nearfield speakers for my system I think audio physic is a good choice, but you should also check out the mani two from totem. I liked the tempos and the virgos, but I thought totem had more bass and more "soul". I hope you like your choice, they are both very good.
Classe CAV 180 - EAD PM1000 - Pass X5 I cannot speak to the Pass, but my EAD 1000 is great with Totem Mani 2's. Great extension and very good bass. I found the switch I made from Adcom to EAD dramatic. I would also add that the totem's are not very efficient. It depends on the speaker... |
