It's No Fun Being a Guru Anymore
I've been in this situation myself. Believe me, you have nowhere to go but down. Unless they're audiophiles like yourself and know good sound, you'll be fighting every inch of the way. And in the end, they'll blame you for everything that's wrong,...
Feedback/Ideas for New Magazine?
I'd be VERY interested. What I'd also like to see is comparisons of some of the best vintage gear compared to the new stuff. For instance, when the other mags review a new turntable, I've never heard any of them compare to a Linn, or Thorens, or w...
Wash, Cut, Polish & Demagnetize
If it doesn't cost a lot, I'm willing to keep an open mind. Does the green marker have to be a certain brand, or can I just find one at K-Mart? Does it have to be a certain shade of green? I honestly will give this a try. As for demaging, instead ...
The truth about interconnects - can you handle it?
I'm an electronics technician, not an engineer. But I do work with some engineers. I brought some ads from some audio magazines to them, and let them look at some for some interconnects and power cords. They were all astounded that anyone could po...
High End Myth Glossary.
Anything cryoedcone-shaped feet to put under thingstweaks that make you "discover your collection all over again"cables thicker than garden hoseAlso, I especially like the part about demagnetizing aluminum cd's
I recently emailed John Atkinson of Stereophile
I would like to see an outfit like Consumer Reports for high end. Use the same criteria that they used to use. They got nothing free from vendors, they bought it all just like we do. They would do real judging, and comparisons and give us a real "...
What is the life span of a phono cartridge?
Isn't it the sylus that wears out?
Dedicated phono cable or quality IC
get a set of interconnects at your nearest Home Depot, or the equivalent. Wire is wire, it conducts electricity. If you're in doubt, check with digital ohm meter. I know people say all kinds of stuff about capacitance, inductance, and the like, bu...

Creative and cheap DIY turntable/tonearm tweaks
http://www.audioasylum.com/index.htmlGo to Audio Asylum, click on the vinyl discussions, and pose your question there. There are a lot of do it yourself, and down right cheap things that can be done to improve things. Also, not all the people here...
Ortofon MC Question
Thanks for the help. I like the sound of the MC20, but some of you have said that there's a shelf life on cartridges, and that they're shot after five years whether used or not. I'm having a lot of fun with vinyl.
What did he say? Misunderstood lyrics.
Beach Boys, Help me Rhonda. "Since you put me down I've got owls pucking in my bed" It sounds like that to me. I've never gotten hold of the sheet music to find out what the lyric really is. Does anyone know?
Why vinyl?
I give up. You're right. I've just ordered a new, to me, turntable, and can't wait. I dragged out my old Garrard DD75 and sat and actually listened, and could tell even from that. A shot cartridge and a crappy TT sounded wonderful. Thankyou all fo...
Are CD clubs a good deal?
They used to be, before the days of the internet. Now, you are induced to join by the free offerings, that you must choose from their list. Yes, it's cheaper than buying them from a store, but you are limited in your selection by what they offer a...
Static problem? Try this
I've tried it, and so far it works great. Let's see how long it stays effective.
