Adcom pre amp versus Van Alstine
rick_n: I agree with your post regarding old audio gear.  All electronics have a life span.  Does one really save $ buying old/used components when you consider how much life is left on that product?  Been there done that many times. I now pref...
Marantz 2325 speaker cables
dill: No Chinese speaker cables? So, China can build nuclear weapons, be the first to land on the dark side of the moon, lead the US in 37 out of 44 technologies including nanoscale materials, but can’t make a decent speaker cable? Hmm...
Marantz 2325 speaker cables
nandoe67 OP Just add solder to the stripped ends! You can get a basic soldering iron and solder for $10-$20!  If you haven't soldered before, the learning process is as easy as a few tries on a practice piece of wire.
Adcom pre amp versus Van Alstine
Personally, I'd go with the Adcom over the AVA, but wouldn't buy neither due to the lack of balanced inputs. Something to consider...
Marantz 2325 speaker cables
Why would you want to use pin connectors?  Screwing down the speaker wire directly to the posts will give you a better connection at the speaker end. On the receiver end you can just connect the other end of a stripped speaker wire.  I'd look for ...
Why "bookshelf" sspeakers?
viridian: How are big speakers = big problem? I’ve had big speakers all my life and they have traveled with me all over the world during my numerous moves. Big speakers= big sound if you ask me, and there is just no substitute for what they can do...
Why "bookshelf" sspeakers?
gdnrbob: I never had a bookshelf speaker until computers became mainstream. Bought my first pair of bookshelves when I got my first computer at a Radio Shack. Personally, I don’t remember seeing many bookshelves back then. Everybody (at least in ...
Your method for discovering great music.
I stream a song I like and then let the music server's artificial intelligence continue playing similar songs.  When I hear one that I like I save it.
Why "bookshelf" sspeakers?
When bookshelf speakers are placed on stands instead of a bookshelf or table there is more room for adjustment. The stands can be manipulated and placed away from the wall and the soundstage, depth etc. can be adjusted more accurately to one's lik...
Do dormant cables need "RE" Broken In? If so how long can they sit dormant?
Not an exact answer to your question but interesting, nonetheless.  BREAK IN: REAL OR IMAGINED? | Galen Carol Audio | Galen Carol Audio (gcaudio.com)
Lifting the Christmas veil
As we age it seems more and more difficult to feel that excitement and anticipation as Christmas approaches.  It's nice when something "makes your day".  Congratulations!

Are AYON Amps popular in the high end community?
I’ve been in this hobby since the early 80’s and had not heard of them, but I am not much into tubes other than for preamps and guitar amps. They just don’t have that low end power that I enjoy, not to mention the inconvenience of the maintenance....
2 channel preamp and a/v processor setup to avoid dual volume control issues.
I give up.  Too much thinking after some Christmas Eve glasses of wine!
