James Strickland/Acoustat
Jim Strickland moved to Arizona when Rockford bought Acoustat. (Or did Hafler buy Acoustat and Rockford bought Hafler?). As far as I know, he is still there designing Hafler pro gear. Don
Isolation?
Jeff, one of these days soon the temperature up your way will get high enough for you to leave the house, eh? Really, I promise. ;>) Meanwhile down here in Florida it is 90 (!) degrees and the state bird (the termite) has taken wing. The only g...
How to reduce CD Transport noise?
Michael Percy has a web site.
To Sub or not to Sub...?
Most manufacturer's speaker line increases in price as the bass gets better. Once you have invested in a good woofer system, it can save you money on future speaker purchases. The low frequency limit of my speakers is 28 Hz but I cross them over a...
Best single-malt Scotch...
Okay, enough of this! Now the real issue: What beer, and how much of it, is necessary to make Bose 901s driven by a Cryin ear receiver sound good?
Bridging Amps for Subwoofers
Bridging adds power but cuts the current by half. Usually makes things worse. I would recommend a new amp. The good news is that there are many great woofer amps around for not a lot of money. How much power do you need?
High ceilings and hardwood floors
Gonna have to put a carpet over those nice hardwood floors. Your room dimensions are to die for and that 16' ceiling should be wonderful. Maybe a large area rug, leaving a few feet of wood floor showing all around would do it. Don
Power Cord Preferances
Belden makes a 14/3 shielded power cord which sells for $10-15 and is way better than the stock cords. It's a good cheap way to start out and see what you think in your system.
xlr question
Didn't I read somewhere that the British use a different XLR pin out from us? What preamp are you using?
BEST brand for Classical Recordings?
The reason that these three labels sound bright is that the absolute phase is reversed. If you listen with the phase correct, they don't sound bright.
Cryogenic Tempering
Albert: Ah, the 1911. 90 years old and still going strong. I also have a custom model which I love shooting but I hate carrying in this Florida heat, so it mostly stays in the safe. I'm moving to New Hampshire in a year of two so I can probably cr...
What temperature is your cartridge?????
Years ago I knew a guy who heated up his EMT cartridge with a hair dryer before listening. And that's here in Florida where we are doing well to get the temperature under 82 degrees!
BEST brand for Classical Recordings?
Reference Recordings. They have a great web site with all of their titles listed.
Cryogenic Tempering
In one of my other hobbies, shooting, everyone who wins long range (1000 yards) competitions is using a cryo treated barrel.
Best efficient Line Conditioner UNDER 1K
I have the Vans Evers 141, which is the same as the Model 83 except that it has 14 outlets rather than 8. It is fantastic piece.
