I give up on HT
In my earlier comment, I forgot to mention that I cover my TV with a mattress pad when listening to two channel. Another thing that ruins the image is a coffee table. I can't do without mine as I'd have no place to put all those remotes but I also...
I give up on HT
I gave up on HT a long time ago when my Lexicon CP1 became obsolete overnight. This unit was $1600 new and the price dropped faster than Bill Clinton's pants at a New Years eve party. Someone has been trying to offload a CP1 for several months and...
Music and Food Taste Correlation
Several years ago I was a partner in a "high end" stereo store. We ran a full page ad in the local symphony program, which brought in more of the musicians than it did audience members. These musicians were a "tough sell". Not because our products...
How to Move Heavy Audio Components
I have moved many a heavy object on my daughter's skateboard. They have wide nylon wheels which roll easily on carpet and don't damage hardwood floors. By leaning the object slightly to one side they turn corners nicely. For really heavy stuff, I ...
Sub-sat system the ultimate compromise ?
I use BOTH. 8 foot tall Acoustat 2+2s which go down to about 30 Hz, crossed over to a Legacy sub which is -2 dB at 16 Hz. Pinpoint imaging is not my main goal as I don't hear this in the concert hall. My priorities are "air", inner detail, dynamic...
A Tombstone in the Living room????
Down here in the South, we use two dead 'possums under our turntables. Sounds real good but ya gotta change 'em every few days. I was bringing two of them across country to demo for a friend of mine. The ticket agent at the airline asked me if I w...
DIGITAL vs. ANALOG
I don't know who said this, but the quote was: "Getting good digital sound is as easy as turning hamburger back into steak".
Anyone heard of this???
M & K (yes, the woofer folks) were modifying these arms and for several years it was Absolute Sound's state of the art reference. All of the linear tracking arms of today owe their heritage to Jacob Rabinowitz, the RAB in Rabco. Gee, I'm givin...
the best electonic crossover???
The Dahlquist LP-1 electronic crossover is passive on the top side, putting ONLY a single capacitor between you and the music above the crossover point. The bottom side is elecronic at 18dB/octive, adjustable from 45 - 400 Hz. Somewhat rare to fin...
Anyone heard Mogami Cables
I have been making my own interconnects from Mogami Neglex 2534 cable for 15 years. The secret is in the RCA plugs that one uses. Use cheap RCAs and the cable will sound fat in the bass and harsh on the top end, lacking stage width and depth. The ...
demagnitizing CD s?
Here's another theory: the static charge in the plastic layer of the CD "bends" the LASER beam, causing jitter. Whatever the reason, my bulk tape eraser will continue to be used on every CD I play. All of which, incidently, have green edges.
What s MM and what s MC
MM is moving magnet, which has a much higher output than a moving coil in most cases. (There are high output moving coils). If the preamp does not have a MC input, a step up device such as a head amp or transformer is necessary.
Grace Tone arm
I have a spare tone arm lifter but don't know what it is off. Can you measure the diameter of yours? I will look at some old Grace literature to see if it will work (I used to be a Grace, Denon dealer) and let you know.

Theta GenVa Upgrade
Hifigy: What do you mean by "transport sensitive" with regard to the Digital Lens? This sounds interesting. As to the Lazer Linque, I'd love to try it and my brother has a Theta IIIa with that input. He also has the cable but neither one of us has...
