Best digital cable below $500
I'm very happy with a balanced Tara Decade digital cable between my Data Basic II and Gen Va. Since you seem to like Tara, why not try their Air digital?
Would an ARC LS16 match well with a Bryston 5BST?
I'm using an LS-16 with a Bryston 4BST and I'm very happy with the sound.
ARC LS-5MKIII or ARC LS-25MKII
Since I've never heard, much less owned, either piece you should take my comments as hear-say (or heresy, if you prefer). I believe the general feeling is that the LS-5 is one of the all time greats from ARC. Bear in mind that it has XLR (balanced...
How do you know when to use ANALOG vs DIGITAL?
Source to preamp is also analog. Digital would be from a transport to a DAC. If you use a pair of cables (L+R channels) it's analog. Digital is carried by a single cable.
Will Magnetic Tape Eventually Go Full Circle
Magnetic tape already went full circle. It was called eight track;^) Of course it only went full circle for a little while, until it bound up and broke. The most horrendous format the world has ever seen.
What's supporting your speakers?
My speakers, being bi-polar, are on Prozac tablets.

I tried a sheep shank but my significant other said "baa".

BTW, my last pair of DQ-10s (I've owned five pair since '76) are alive and well in my daughter's system, along with a PSB subwoofer. Whatjd - If you decide to buy a pair and they are not mirror imaged or don't have the cap mod, email me and I'll h...
Modern Day Dahlquist DQ-10
The real deal is a nice refurbished pair of DQ-10s with a good subwoofer. With good electronics, they'll sound much better than you remember them. Still better than most of today's speakers.
low tech rubber tweaks
Can you turn the faucet one way for a warmer sound and the other way for cooler?
Nora Jones new CD -- Copy Protection -- YIKES
Wow. If all of us audiophiles boycott this CD, we can probably cause the label to lose about a half of one percent of sales. That'll teach 'em. But seriously, do you think they give a hirsute rodent's hind quarters about us?
Free Tweak...does it work for you??
Just tied a square knot in the lamp cord. Don't hear anything. It's still silent. Like a lamp should be.
Suggestions, please...
OK, to be serious, you must get Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances on Reference Recordings. A gorgeous piece of music and a terrific recording. A rare combination.

Baroque is when you have no Monet.

The piano teacher was technically correct. "Classical music" is music of the classical era while Rachmaninov was of the "romantic" era. We tend to use the term "classical" to cover several eras.
