Bass distortion before tweeter distortion with a monitor at high volume? A well designed speaker should perform with almost flat response and just roll off in the bass due to size limitations. Also, how big is your "big" room and how loud do you listen? I've seen some monitors that rock better than some huge floor st...
New Two Zone System - I'm out of my League I ran my phone with Tidal through a B1 to a Chord Hugo and it was amazing! The IR repeater should go in the most logical place to point your remote. If you don't want extra holes, run it with the speaker wire and hide it behind the grill. Perso...
Bass distortion before tweeter distortion with a monitor at high volume? So, you guys really think that my 92 db at 1 watt/1 meter Coincident monitors are actually distorting at 95 db? Is that when I overdrive them with my 100 watt tube monoblocks or my 325 wpc Mac amp? They will fill most rooms with sound. Adding a s...
Bass distortion before tweeter distortion with a monitor at high volume? I disagree with all. Distortion usually comes from the amp, not the speakers. By adding a sub, you are putting less stress on the amp which allows for more headroom in the monitors. Bass is the most demanding and therefor uses the most power.Th...

New Two Zone System - I'm out of my League Hey, if we are bashing Sirius (which deserves bashing), I'd go with Tidal.
CDP Repair or Replace? Seeking advice Please Doesn't the 840 have digital inputs? I love the sound from it. Keep using the sony as a transport.
New Two Zone System - I'm out of my League Matt,They do make 2 channel multi room receivers that will handle this. The problem is that you want to use your parasound preamp. Here is what I would do: Buy a Yamaha, Denon or Onkyo multi room receiver.Use the Parasound as a source as well as ...
Any pluses or minuses to the older McIntosh mc275 compared to the newer mc275's IV, V, VI? Isn't the 275 a bit of overkill? I've had Cornwalls and Hereseys and 7 watts will blow the windows out. One plus of Mac amps is the softer "tubey" sound since horns can get fatiguing...
Ceiling Speakers I've got in-ceiling speakers throughout my home. One thing is a MUST. Get speakers in sealed boxes. The sealed aluminum enclosures do 2 things: 1-they keep the sound from reverberating throughout the house. 2-the sealed enclosure is designed f...
Preamp for music and home theater for under $3500 The emotivas will allow different bass management for each source (many pre's do this now). I run my oppo 2 ways: Pure 2 channel direct for stereo listening and then I use 7 channel output for theater. You can use hdmi instead of 7 channel. Why ...
Help please upgrading my old Pre/Pro.. Listen to the post above-I had an Acurus and hated it.The PSB's are beasts and do go low. Keep in mind that many discs are designed to have a .1 channel. A good sub will not only go lower but will also alleviate a lot of strain on your front amp...
Better 2 channel music performance via upgrade? Try a DAC first.Your amp is nice and your speakers are great. The Oppo is a great transport and theater unit. A new oppo will improve sound.
Preamp for music and home theater for under $3500 As an owner of an Oppo 105 and Emotiva UMC-200, I would agree with many comments above. I had a 103 and was always sorry that I didn't buy the 105. I finally upgraded and it was an impressive difference. Not only was the sound quality better ... |
