good, small speakers
Soliloquy Sat-5's. They don't care where they are placed. Also, with no ports, they easily go into a bookshelf or against a wall. They will crush Spica's performance in every which way except maybe imaging. Also, you may find that Spicas are extre...
Subwoofer in ceiling
I agree with everyone else, the ceiling is probably not a good place for a sub. It may sound ok until all of your lights rattle loose and the plaster cracks from vibrations. They do make subs for under floor installation. All you need for this is a...
HT Receiver Recommendations & Denon Question
Don't forget that banana plugs can add another inch in depth! Also, many manufacturers tend to claim that they have zone 2 capabilities and don't really. Yamaha,Sony and Integra have zone 2 outs but no volume control and limited switching for most ...
Help deciding which amp to use
1-nice deal2-you really want matching sound/amps for all 3 front channels-you have to use either the nak or b&k.3-the nak is no slacker4-which models of rotel, b&k & parasound? The Rotel may be a little 20 watt job that isn't worth mor...
Tube Change for Sonic Frontiers SFL-1 and Power 1
It's amazing that companies will use garbage tubes in such nice gear. Lose the Sovteks and almost anything will be an improvement. Keep in mind that new 6922/6dj8's will run you a lot less money than old stock mullard or telefunkens.
Wiring a Center Channel
Shouldn't you check with manufacturers before doing this? Some receivers/amps will not like this?????????
CHeap surrounds that throw large soundstage....
Hell just froze over!!!!!!!!!!I agree with exertfluffer. Buy a pair used for about $75 to $90. I changed out woofers on mine to a pair of vifas and it was amazing!
Woofer dust cap repair advice, HELP
The dust cap shouldn't affect the sound. Use blue tack or masking tape to do what you can.Otherwise, there are speaker repair companies that can cut off the old caps and glue on new ones: Tri-state loudspeaker in Aliquippa Pa is the best I've seen.
Receiver Rotel? and Speakers Maggies? for HT?
Why not soliloquy speakers all around since you already like them. You should be able to find Sat-5's for $400/pr and a center for $400. These would sound great with the Rotel.
suggestion for a multi channel pre/amp please
One last thing to ask: You said 6 in walls? If so, are you willing to forgo the rear center? Most stuff is 5.1 anyway. Why buy a 6 channel system if you really want 5?In your price range, you can find a nice used anthem, rotel or similar with a qu...
Help with the right amp for JM Lab speakers
Lose the Carvers! Sorry to carver bash, but besides volume, they don't hold up to many others. Even a little adcom or Jolida will give your speakers dynamics and clarity that you never knew they were capable of.After that, imagine what a $5000 amp...
My "Hummer" is driving me nuts
Forgot one other item: Do you have any other household items on that same circuit? A tv upstairs, a fishtank downstairs, a lamp in the living room...? This stuff can cause a hum. Try shutting off the breaker and see what else goes out.
Pro amps
I agree with Panny. Pro-amps are designed for a different purpose. The only exception may be for subwoofer use. However, awesome pro amps are also a lot of money! I just sold a bunch of QSC amps without ever debating on keeping them for my theater...
need help deciding on a new ht reciever
That's a big room. You should really consider seperates. Most pre/pro's will sound better than similar priced receivers. This will allow you to use any amps you want and you can alway get any old amp/receiver for $25 at a garage sale to power the ...
My "Hummer" is driving me nuts
Ground Loop Hum most likely.Unplug everything but the amp, power it up and listen for hum. If no hum, great! Continue by plugging in and turning on each component 1 at a time until the hum appears. Once you find the culpret, you can either deal wi...
