Cross over frequency ???
All of the above is good advise and sound theory. Give it a try. However, my experience has led me to a somewhat different approach.First, turn off the main speakers and, with the crossover set to 90 Hz or thereabouts, listen to some music. "What ...
DYI Speakers. How good can they be?
When I got into this hobby, virtually all speakers were DIY. You bought the drivers of your choice, and used plans put out by the manufacturers to build a cabinet. There were some good cabinet kits. Electrovoice was one that I put my Warfedale 12"...

Sean...Please clarify. Are you in favor of half-baked science? Or do you reject good science and perceptive instinct?

There are people who say that a solid state "watt" is different from a tube "watt". Maybe these are some different kind of dB.

Sean... Science is good. Instinct is good. What's bad is when half-baked science is trotted out to "prove" someone's instinct.

Lugnut...What if the aerogel were made with helium in it instead of air? Maybe we will need speaker hold-down cables instead of cones!

Rooze...I think we really need to find out how loud is loud. You need to do one of two things. (1) Get a sound level meter and determine how many dB we are talking about. (2) Have your hearing checked. (Don't feel bad about this. Beethoven was deaf...

Does tubed gear make your speakers hum/buzz?
Tubes hiss. I don't know any solution for that.Regarding Hum...It is possible to make a tube preamp that has no hum (well almost). My first preamp was a Heathkit (which I understand was basically a Fisher design). It was quite difficult to build b...
How to keep my stack of Adcoms cool...
Actually, I have always wondered why some high end outfit didn't come up with a water-cooled audio power amp. Advantages would include precise regulation of operating temperature (an advantage of water-cooled engines over liquid-cooled). However, ...

Pardon me, but how will a subwoofer reduce tweeter power?

If you are able to do things in the cellar, put the amps down there. This would be easier and better than ductwork. Run the speaker wires down there also.

sean...Your speaker placement procedure is pretty much what I have used for years, and is just common sense. But, you forgot the final step! Mark the speaker positions somehow (tape works) so that you won't have to go through the whole routine eve...
