People who are Irrationally Afraid of tube amps
Twl...I am not all that impressed with academic credentials, although I have some myself. I agree that a listening test would be interesting, but unless I get to an expo it can't happen. Tell me one very simple thing. Are the specs I quoted wrong?...
do bridged amps give the same sound as non bridged
Bridging means that each side sees a low impedance, 4 ohms if your speaker is 8 ohms. 2 ohms if it is a 4 ohm speaker. I note that amp distortion specs usually increase for lower impedance loads.

Tubegroover..OK, I checked it out. The technology (OTL) is interesting.70 watts at 2 percent distortion, with output impedance of 8.7 ohms, and all for a mere $4500. Sorry, I don't think my Maggies would like that.So I also checked out the other m...
People who are Irrationally Afraid of tube amps
Tubegroover...Perhaps I am just lucky, but the only failures I have ever experienced with transistorized equipment involved a power supply diode (easily fixed, and could also have occured with many tube amps) and a bad wiring connector internal to...
People who are Irrationally Afraid of tube amps
Tubegroover...If you define an "audiophile" as someone who uses tube equipment, you can say that 100 percent of audiophiles use tube equipment. I have experienced the "cutting edge" of tube design, but the wounds are almost completely healed.Serio...
Why Does A Concrete Floor/Spiked Metal Rack...
inpepinnovations@aol.com...I guess your system is like a rigid rack except that you are coupled to the ceiling instead of the floor. If you are in a one floor building, this will avoid problems with people walking around your listening room. If yo...
Magnepan MMG
It obviously depends on what signal you put into it. A LF warble tone all day while you are at work whould equal many hours of music. If you can't do the warble tone, try an FM pop music station. They compress the dynamic range of their signal so ...
can i bi-amp my speakers with a rotel 6ch amp?
First let me confess, I am an adicted biamper...but...What's all this talk about Y-adaptiors for bi-amping? What you need is an electronic (low level) crossover. If you drive both amps full range, most of the advantages of biamping are lost. Back ...
Why Does A Concrete Floor/Spiked Metal Rack...
inpepinnovations@aol.com...Sure, chopper rotor blades flex: that's why cracks are such a concern. The Atlas ICBM structure is aluminum, not vinyl. It is kept pressurized at all times.Yes, depending on the wall thickness of the tube, fairly high pre...
People who are Irrationally Afraid of tube amps
The high voltages running around in tube amps cause capacitors, both in the power supply and between amplification stages to degrade. Of course tubes degrade.Reliability, both with regard to performance specs and physical damage, is certainly affe...
Best speakers for $500 or less
SlipKnot1 is correct. And you can get your money back if you trade up to other Magneplanar speakers within a year.
can i bi-amp my speakers with a rotel 6ch amp?
Sure you can. I now have a three channel amp, (and several monoblocks) but in general I have found several 2-channel units to be more convenient. Reasons include:1. Multichannel amps can get darned big and heavy. Hard to locate, expensive to ship,...
Why Does A Concrete Floor/Spiked Metal Rack...
inpepinnovations@aol.com..You are right about the CO2, (a careless afterthought on my part) but wrong about internal pressurization stiffening up a structure. There are many examples. I picked the bike example because it somewhat resembles the tub...
Where are your maggies??
sean...I know what you mean about the bass of auto sound systems. In my rural location I can hear tham coming down the road from a mile off.As the engineer who always looks for the analytical explanation, it's not easy for me to discount your comm...
Hybrid SACD Question
Elizabeth...Sometimes the CD layer of the Hybrid disc has been remastered relative to the straight redbook issue, and so may sound different, better or worse.
