Iso Clean Fuses
Rodman99999... "unsubstantiated, empty opinions". That's a good description of the subjective endorsements put forth by fuse believers.
do fancy fuses help?
If you know your amp is OK, temporarily replace the fuse with a jumper. If it doesn't sound different save your money. And don't forger to remove the jumper!
Iso Clean Fuses
Bicycle_man ... "Audiophile" fuses are not over the top. We still have cryo-treated audiophile fuses, installed in a preferred direction, and probably more after that!
Iso Clean Fuses
I must point out that the "thin cheap" wire in a fuse is that way for a reason. A fuse is SUPPOSED to blow when its current rating is exceeded. You could put a big hefty gold-plated wire in a glass tube, but it wouldn't be a fuse. As for direction...
Reciever with input volume adjustment??
Mapman...Back in the good old days even lowly preamps like Heathkit had input level controls for all inputs, with shorting of inputs not selected (to avoid bleed through). Gone... like the Loudness switch, Tone Controls, variable phono equalizatio...
Mono VS Stereo
FWIW...In the late 1940s I listened (was made to sit down and listen) to a SOTA system, Mono of course. It utilized two loudspeakers, positioned just as we do today for stereo. It also had a phono pickup which used wooden "needles" that had a tria...
polarity questions
If you think it ("absolute phase") matters, get a balanced interconnect made with Hot #2 on one end and Hot #3 on the other end. It would be easy to modify your existing interconnect.
ruined a phillips screw, any inspired solution?
How many audiophiles does it take to remove a screw?
HUGE Spacious Surrounds - The
Soundsbeyondspecs....Most equalizers would not have the range necessary to make the 901s flat. I use the parametric function of the DEQ 2496 to insert a broad and deep multioctave cut through the middle octaves. Then I run the automatic room EQ (w...
HUGE Spacious Surrounds - The
Depending on your room, Bose 901s can sound very good. I bought a pair to use as surrounds in a huge swimming pool room, but have ended up so far just using them for fronts. I use a Behringer DEQ 2496 instead of the Bose-supplied equalizer, and I ...
dumb question about gain and preamps
A subtle distinction..."Unity gain" means that the VOLTAGE out is the same as the voltage in. The output impedance, which you might call the "strength" of the signal, is usually much lower. That's the purpose of a unity gain output stage
Trying to get in to vinyl, turntable suggestions?
Tvad...You said "LP records and their inherent noise".Wow! When I said such a thing the vinyl police worked me over.
Two-channel is inferior to multi-channel, no?
Kijanki...If you analyse the typical stereo signals you will find that most of the power is "common mode". In other words the Left and Right signals are mostly equal to each other. This common mode signal "deserves" its own speaker, if anything, a...
Two-channel is inferior to multi-channel, no?
Kijanki...What you are hearing is the very interesting illusion of a "phantom" centered sound source from two speakers reproducing a mono signal. But however interesting, it's an illusion. Real is better. As I mentioned, the benefit of a center spe...
What component should be on a walnut board?
A nice loaf of fresh baked bread.
