Is Phase and polarity the same thing? If you reverse (interchange) (+) and (-) wires you shift phase by 180 degrees, at all frequencies. That's why "polarity" (which way the wires are connected) is often described as "in phase" or "out of phase".
subwoofer suspended from ceiling? When I designed my custom SW systems which are embedded in a wall I located the two drivers, (for each of three SW systems) 15" and 12", stacked at the center of the Magneplanars, which is near halfway between floor and ceiling. Good results.
Riaa curve Phasecorrect...Don't encourage him!! :-)
Riaa curve I should have mentioned that I am/was the Aerospace type of engineer and worked on military missile guidance systems since 1961. Back in the day we overdesigned everything. What the hell...we were saving the world from the USSR. Cost was not an is...
Riaa curve Rauliruegas...There are more important things for you and Ralph to worry about than 0.01 dB RIAA accuracy. Neither you nor Ralph have suggested a reason why high accuracy RIAA is important when other elements of the system are so much worse with r...
ever had a parts I once added additional filtering capacitance to a regulated power supply, and it became an oscillator!!
Riaa curve Atmasphere...Agreed that no one would deliberately screw with the RIAA equalization. My original point was that 0.1 dB is readily obtainable and more than adequite. 0.01 dB is a waste of effort. IMHO.
Riaa curve Atmasphere...Ok. I guess I just said "frequency response" when I meant fidelity to RIAA equalization across the whole band. I think that was what we were talking about. When the record is mastered equalization is usually applied so that the result ...
Servo Controlled Arm Hiho...Most people, audiophiles included, don't understand servo design, or appreciate the performance potential. Perhaps they have experienced crude servos, like early cruise control in cars, and not been impressed. Most audio manufacturers don't...
Riaa curve Atmasphere...What is cut in the vinyl is heard through speakers...the "equation" for what is heard most certainly includes speakers, and a lot of other stuff, and the cutter. You say that you can find parts that are "CLOSE ENOUGH" to "DO THE JOB". ...
Riaa curve I don't know how good the cutting equalization is...that's why I asked. Atmasphere might know. If you can hear a 0.1 (or 0.01) dB boost over the range above or below the RIAA break frequency (1000 Hz I think) who is to say that the boost is bad? I...
Riaa curve Raul....Do you know the spec on the RIAA equalization when the LP is cut, and the frequency response of the cutter, its electronics, and the recorder that made the master, and the microphones?
Bel Canto and Digital Volume Control Patrickp...Wadia puts the 16 bits into the MSB end of a 22 bit converter so that several shifts can be done before the LSB is lost. However, the resulting volume quantization is very coarse...(they say 18 dB, but I would have thought 6 dB). The qu...
Bel Canto and Digital Volume Control Again, it must be pointed out that digital volume controls do not "drop bits". They use a digitally-controlled resistor ladder, which is like the "attenuator" control that some people prefer to a pot. There is a chip to do this job, and probably m...
Riaa curve Axelwahl...You are correct that importance of RIAA frequency accuracy is over rated. The rest of the system, notably speakers, are much less accurate. One consideration when the the RIAA curve was adopted was that it should be easy to implement. Sp... |
