Frequency Response of L.P's
One method of quadraphonic recording on vinyl involved recording from 20Khz to 40Khz, but this information was Frequency Modulated, using a special preamp to decode it. Because it was FM, flat frequency response and low distortion was not required...
Crimping bare speaker cable connections
When I had my house electrical service changed recently I noticed the electrician using a paste on the aluminum cables when he connected them to the copper connectors of the house wires. This prevents corrosion and is essential for aluminum wire c...
One or two subwoofers?
Ideally your main speakers would be full range and not require an auxiliary SW. To achieve this, a SW should be adjacent to (underneath or behind) each of your main speakers, and become part of that speaker system. So this means that you need two ...
digital optical interlink vs. coaxial
The digital information travels through the cable or optical fiber with essentially no error. Problems can arise as follows:Coax is susceptable to pickup of electrical noise, that may affect ability of the receiver to distinguish "ones" from "zero...
What's the correct plug for 20Amp power cord?
A "20 amp" plug won't give you more power than a 15 amp one. The power drawn depends on the load (your amp). A draw of 20 amps would mean 2300 watts. If your amp were only 50 percent efficient it would be putting out more than 1100 watts...continu...
Test multi-channel SACD disc
Disc vs DVD player vs SS processor. On my rig all the test tones give the same results, as they should.
A Simple Test
A good LP test record (which any vinylhead outht to have) includes a "silent groove". I think you need more time than permitted between tracks, and the record will be changing speed when you shut off the power.
a good cheap way to test tubes
I remember the days when the typical local drugstore had a tube tester! Don't know what you would do today, except trial and error substitution..
Opinions On Ampzilla Trinaural Processor?
Joshl...Logic assisted matrix decoders were around before digital. Sure, it can be all analog. However, there are some real advantages to doing the job in the digital domain. Most important, the signal that you are listening to can be delayed sligh...
What happen to finishing speakers like furniture?
What happened to finishing furniture like furniture! Lower quality is not limited to loudspeakers.Suggestion...get Magneplanars. Almost no wood, and what there is is real!
Opinions On Ampzilla Trinaural Processor?
Joshl...A stereo signal is a stereo signal, so the device will work the same. However, the differential signal (Left minus right, which is vertical groove modulation) from an LP is noisy (rumble) and attenuated relative to a digital source, and th...
Surround music ?
Rsbeck...Your best response would be the quote "One man right is a majority of one".But you are wrong (IMHO) :)
Your opinion on cable spending
Sean...My four word comment was intended to highlight, by contrast, the complexity of your solution to the problem. Maybe poke a little fun at it :) Most cable-ophiles do cite tonal balance as their objective. I don't think that equalizers quite d...
Comparing digital amps
If money matters you can't beat the CarverPro ZR1600 for about $840. Many have commented about its good sonics so I won't repeat that. This is one you can afford to try amd form your own opinion.
Power Cords - Shielding or No Shielding
If you have an old house with BX wire, your power is shielded, up to the wall plug. Maybe people who like shielded power cords ought to use BX instead of Romex wire when they install dedicated lines.
