Analog Domain EQs
Audio Control makes good stuff at reasonable cost. In particular, their "Richter Scale" equalizer/analyser covers the range below 150 Hz, (which is probably where you need it) and includes a crossover should you wish to biamp, or subwoof.
110V to 230V power conversions
Most electronic equipment is designed for the global economy, and uses transformers that have split primary windings that can be connected either in series (for 220 v) or parallel (for 110v). Many units have a switch that the user can throw to mak...

Different HDTV signals?
Lej1447...I am using S-Video interface. My plasma is not HD, but the picture, using SVideo is sharp enough that my eyes can't distinguish pixels from normal viewing distance. The wire run from the Sony HD Direct TV receiver to the plasma is about ...
One big subwoofer or two weaker subwoofers?
Sean...Those small drivers with big voice coils wouldn't be Dynaudio by any chance. I have a set of Dynaudio MTM boxes with 5inch "woofers" that have 3inch voice coils. They bark furiously, but no bite. Very nice close up in a small room.Size matt...
Simple fix for the scd 777es "no disc" message?
On a Denon 2900, when I play one type of disc (CD, SACD, DVD-A) following another of a different type I sometimes get a hangup, and a "No Disc" message.. It's as if the player was still looking for the prior type of disc. (This NEVER occurs with m...
One big subwoofer or two weaker subwoofers?
"Faster". What does this mean? Here is what I think.Frequency response is part of the story. A subwoofer that is flat to 400 Hz will handle 80 Hz better than one that is flat to 200 Hz. However, a loudspeaker that reproduces the LF waveform perfec...
One big subwoofer or two weaker subwoofers?
The SW systems are in the wall because I like the characteristics of a sealed (acoustic suspension) system. There are many drivers suitable for sealed box alignment, but few designed for infinite baffle operation. Also, it is an outside wall.It is...
One big subwoofer or two weaker subwoofers?
Size matters. Of course so does quality, but 20 Hz sound at any reasonable volume is an uphill battle for an 8-10 inch driver. It is possible to make a small cone vibrate at subwoofer frequencies, but what happens when the sound goes out into the ...

Different HDTV signals?
I recently got a plasma display, and the aspect thing surely is a pain. My remote has a little red button to change aspect, and I expect it will wear out long before the plasma dies.

Fatparrot.... When I play my violin (no CD involved) it tends to sound "harsh, scratchy, or screechy". Maybe that's just a characteristic of the instrument. Violas, and cellos are smoother.
What music do you want to play really loud?
Review of this thread proves the theory that Pop/Rock music makes you deaf!

Tireguy...Your mistake is excused. I made one once. I thought I had made a mistake, but I hadn't.
