Why do no audio enthusiasts use McIntosh? Although some audiophiles can't understand it, "Look and Feel" of the equipment is important, and MacIntosh has always been the best. And some of the sonics are very good, if not the absolute best. Cost is relatively high, but for some people this...
Maggies...Measured Amp Power Requirements Aroc...You could probably compensate for playing your Maggies at lower SPL by using one of the excellent and inexpensive analyser/equalizers that have appeared on the market. Check out the Behringer DSP8024, less than $250 including mic and cable....
Maggies...Measured Amp Power Requirements Dolfan...The SPL of 96dB (plus or minus as the music varied) was very loud. Louder than I would normally listen. Remember I was curious about why those clipping leds were flashing. I will do it again at lower (reasonable) SPL. I am sure there is s...
Universal Players that do not convert DSD to PCM? Izsakmixer...Thanks for reminding us that analog masters are still around. In fact very many brand new SACD (at least in the classical area) are reissues of historic performances from as far back as 1959 (Bruno Walter/Columbia Symphony/Mozart Symp...
Universal Players that do not convert DSD to PCM? Recorders and studio equipment for mastering is expensive, and no one is going to rush out and buy all new DSD technology when high resolution PCM is as good or better.
dbx Expnders - 3bx, 5bx Sean...That's what pop music fans like. The customer is always right. Real audiophiles listen to classical.
Omnidirectional speakers. The future? Never done any serious outdoor listening, but I have heard speakers (Maggies) syspended from the ceiling near the center of a barn that was so big that I'm sure there were no reflections to speak of. The best IMHO. But not everyone has a barn.
End of Hi-fi? I don't know about NASA, but in the Aerospace Defense business at least fifteen years ago we quit using Mag Tape for anything but evaluation/troubleshooting data collection, for subsequent readin to an offline computer for analysis. And that was d...
dbx Expnders - 3bx, 5bx inpepinnovations@aol.com...The Autocorrelator control signal is LEFT + RIGHT, (Mono). The dominant FM radio noise is in the LEFT - RIGHT multiplexed signal which is mixed with the Mono so as to derive LEFT and RIGHT. Therefore the performance of t...
dbx Expnders - 3bx, 5bx Sean...No disagreement that existing dynamic processors (which I know of) always are slightly behind the signal. However, some are much better than others in this regard. Bob Carver's toy was pretty good, as inpepinnovations@aol.com reports. My po...
dbx Expnders - 3bx, 5bx Sean...The main problem with dynamic processors of all kinds, noise filters, expanders, multichannel logic decoders, is the fact that their action is controlled by the audio signal, so there is always some delay before they act. The usualy listene...
Universal Players that do not convert DSD to PCM? Twclark...OK reason. But be sure you research how the disc was made. Most SACD programs were mastered on PCM equipment, and converted over to DSD to make the SACD.
dbx Expnders - 3bx, 5bx Twl...Too bad. Do you realize that most of the analog tape masters, which audiophiles extol, used DBX noise reduction. It was better than Dolby, which the rest of the master tapes used.
Amp help for the Maggies? Gregadd...."shallow end of the magnepan pool". A very appropriate description.
High End Audio Dealers Sad but true. High end dealers have to eat too. |
