Thoughts on Quad 989 amp selection? I always heard that Quad electrostatics are best driven by Quad amps. This is the "can't go wrong" option.
why a speaker would sound better with one single a Bignerd100...Don't use the internal X/O. Bypassing it is the main reason to biamp. Any certified plane operated within its capabilities can lose an engine and be OK. However, while they have enough power to fly on one engine, two-engine planes tha...
Omnidirectional speakers. The future? Sean...This is a truly huge pie shaped shed, but its acoustics have been taylored by various absorbing and reflective panels. Other than these panels, all surfaces are highly reflective wood and iron trusses. Of course the sound is constrained bet...
Omnidirectional speakers. The future? Sean...Come to Tanglewood and listen for yourself. The "last row" effect is well known.
Speakers for vocalists I just learned of some further analogies between biological structure and multidriver speaker systems. The little hairs of the inner ear which sense sound vibrations came in three types: long, medium, and short, sensitive to low, mid, and high fre...
Lowther speakers for Fisher X-202-B? Twl and other Lowther fans...I don't mean to offend, but my take on whizzers is that they just create a lot of very high frequency noise, not directly related to the music signal. However, the ear does not really distinguish individual notes up th...
Lowther speakers for Fisher X-202-B? If you must have a high efficiency full range speaker, get one without a whizzer cone. Fostex makes several such lines in various diameters. I think that all Lowthers have whizzers.
Omnidirectional speakers. The future? Sean...with regard to percentage of reflected sound...I used to work as an usher (unpaid) at the Tanglewood summer music festival, and so I learned something of the acoustics of the huge shed in which the BSO performs. Seats up front can hear well...
Moved from 2 channel to Home Theatre - Regrets? You cannot achieve the same overall quality by having more of lesser quality equipment. Pick your 2-channel performance (and cost) level, and then find the money to do it 5 times instead of two. Skimping on center and rear channels, and downgradin...
Upsampling. Truth vs Marketing Non-integer sampling frequency conversion is no big deal. The worst case error is a fraction of the error which would have existed if the interpolated data had not been calculated and output at the higher rate.
Universal Players that do not convert DSD to PCM? Izsakmixer...Sounds like the people who designed digital mixers did a lousy job. Obviously what you call "delay management" is required. I have not been involved with digital audio (except as a user) but the business of syncing up realtime digital...
Universal Players that do not convert DSD to PCM? Izsakmixer...I guess I used the wrong terminology, "mixed". I didn't know that you guys distinguish mixing from other kinds of processing. I am going by the markings that I see on CDs, for example "ADD" meaning a digital release, processed digital...
Maggies...Measured Amp Power Requirements Jvogt...Your experience is exactly what others have had. Perhaps my little test puts the lore on a solid technical footing.
Maggies...Measured Amp Power Requirements At 82 to 86 dB...loud, but not ridiculous.SW X/O at 40 Hz...14 vrms and 21 volts peak.which is 49 watts rms and 110 watts peak.SW X/O at 100 Hz...12 vrms and 18 volts peak.which is 36 watts rms and 81 watts peak.Note the following facts.1...SPL me...
Maggies...Measured Amp Power Requirements Loontoon...Of course 96 dB is too loud. Only a few of my recordings (Wurlitzer theater organ concert for example) would reach this level. Remember I was doing an experiment.Long ago when I had MG II speakers I drove tham with a 2 X 35 watt Eico tu... |
