Equalization done right, experiences?
Ad010685...Ok if you want to spend the $. Do those units have a RTA and autoequalization capability? You might want to consider the Behringer just for the RTA. I use one of mine to set up the analog parametric equalizer that I have for my center f...
Equalization done right, experiences?
The Behringer DEQ2496 (two of them actually) have been the greatest and most cost effective addition I have ever made to an audio system. I think that the Spectrum Analyser part is important because it lets you see what your room response problem ...
Ready to try vinyl
Albertporter...I won't debate with you whether existing DD turntables exhibit "cogging", but, speaking as one with some experience with (non-audio) DD precision servos, "cogging" would be a flaw in the design. It is no more inherent to a DD system...
RTA recommendation
I am sure that a $3000 unit would be a better RTA, but how can you go wrong with the Behringer DEQ2496 at about $370 (including mic)? If you can't accept that it is a fine unit, think of it as a learning tool until you get something better (which ...
Comments on Panasonic TH-42PX50U Plasma TV
Another cheer for the Panny TH-42PD25 EDTV Plasma. For this size (small) plasma I think that HD may be unessential. Yes, if you compare HD and ED side by side, HD is better, but, IMHO, is still overpriced.
ELP laser turntable - any comments?
Tbg...If your TT moves 1/2 inch vertically, and 3/4 inch horizontally, I submit that you have best evacuate the house, especially if you live in California! As to specs...40 dB and 50dB are not significantly different in terms of real world effect...
Sacd/dvd-a, The Hype Is Dead, For Me At Least...
It is true that SACD offers an improvement over CD, but the difference is only obvious on superior playback equipment. On the other hand, DVDA offers much more than high resolution, and therefore has a better chance of support from the mass market...
wiring a 3rd speaker for phantom center
Make a "Y" speaker connection. In other words disconnect the RETURNS (Black) of the LEFT and RIGHT speakers from the amplifier, and connect them both to the HI (Red)input of the center speaker. (You can make this wiring at the back of the amplifie...
First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons
greenmountainaudio@adelphia.net...Yes the component values, for a particular frequency, differ from a first order filter because the cascaded filters are working from and into different impedances. But they are still two series filters. In the cas...
Cats and audiophiles
The cat might jump if the cliff was high enough. In New York, and probably other cities, cats do fall out the windows of tall buildings. An interesting fact has been observed...if a cat falls from the third(I think) floor, it will likely be killed....
Cats and audiophiles

First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons
Skrivis...If, as you say "a 1st-order x-over sums to a piece of wire" it must follow that a second order crossover, which amounts to two first order filters in series, is the sum of two pieces of wire. But I agree that digital crossovers can do won...
Cats and audiophiles
Why are audiophiles so involved with cats? In the real world dogs rule.
Permanently sealing a vented subwoofer??
If you restrict airflow through the vent, but don't block it completely you will have a configuration that is sometimes good. The well regarded old Dynaco speakers were designed this way.If you want to experiment, try filling the vent with soda st...
DK Design Group X-Dream - wow
Lrsky...OK, that makes sense. Previous comments suggested that cutting the metal for each speaker took 3 months, which, to anyone familiar with CNC, was obviously wrong. Thanks for clearing it up.
