Searching for power amps with low damping factor.
Pray tell...why do you want low damping? I thought that higher is better.
UcD vs TriPath Digital amps.
Drubin...It's not that I dislike the Maggie ribbon. Rather, I like the QR approach just as much. I did listen to both, and I could not hear any reason to pay so much more for the MG3.6. The QR does have the advantage of using the same technology a...
nad s300 , 200 watts 4 ohms?
How far you turn up the volume has nothing to do with the power capability of the amp. It has to do with GAIN (volts out/volts in). A low power amp can have high gain, and under normal listening conditions play louder than a high powered amp, but ...
UcD vs TriPath Digital amps.
Just to close out my observations about the CI D200 in my system...Physically attaching the amps to the MG1.6 speakers proved impractical mostly because there would be both a line cord and a signal cable to drag around when moving the speakers. In...

Vinyl lovers--in case you haven't tried this yet
.1. I presume you are still listening through two speakers, even though the program is mono. Before stereo came along the very best systems were using two speakers for mono. This avoids the effect of listening through a "hole in the wall" and prov...
hum from nearby high-tension wires?
If you can't drive a rod down into earth, another approach is a metalic mat, say 4X8 feet, which you bury as deep as posible.
Tubes and microphonics
All tubes are microphonic, but some tubes are more microphonic than others. And it makes a difference where in the amplifier circuit the tube is used.A severe case of microphonics is certainly bad. However, it may be the case that a trace of micro...
MC transformers - what do they sound like?
When I had MC pickups I initially used a Signet transformer that was almost the size of a beer can, which I gather is larger than most. I was very skeptical about the merits of a transformer, and it was only after I abandoned it and went on to act...

.Wellfed...Thankyou for the statement.Guilty as charged.NEXT CASE..
Clever Little Clock - high-end audio insanity?
Wellfed...To continue the legal analogy...when there is prima facie evidence against the defendant he is presumed to be guilty unless he presents contrary evidence. In your case being contrary to all laws of science is prima facie evidence.
Clever Little Clock - high-end audio insanity?
At least a person who buys this thing gets something useful...a clock to tell time.
Behringer DEQ2496 HELP
Ecruz...In my experience 5 minutes is way overkill. 30 seconds in FAST mode just about nails it. Then I watch in SLOW mode, probably for another 30 seconds just to be on the safe side, but nothing much changes after the FAST phase.
At what point can you hear a Fast or Slow Table?
A fast or slow turntable will affect the pitch of the music. The accepted standard today is 440 Hz for middle A, but there has been wide variation throughout history, and even some variation today. See http://www.uk-piano.org/history/pitch.html. T...
Magnepan MMG or MG12?
Aaronr...For Maggies I would stick with new. They are a unique technology and not easily evaluated as to condition. But if you can, listen to MG1.6 along with the 1.2 and then you decide. Whenever I have bought equipment that was not really what I...
