woofers gone wild Lousyreeds1...OK, maybe you better have someone who is familiar with electronics look at it. Hopefully it is just a simple adjustment which they might even do for free (if they want your further business).A "Pot" is a Potentiometer, which is a var...
Good Grief. Another Tchaikovsky already. Texasdave...It would be interesting to compare his approach in 1988 with today. I think I must have a Heifetz somewhere. I will dig it out and listen.
Bel Canto eOne amps - Is this the future? Move on Muralman1! The ICE age is over. Next up..UcD. You could probably get the module (from Hypex.com) for a few hundred bucks and drop it into your H2O with the power supply you are so fond of.
MC transformers - what do they sound like? Rauliruegas...Transformers do have their proponents. In addition to the MC phono aplication, some prefer transformer-coupled amplifier stages over capacitors, and some prefer variable coupling transformers over pots for volume control.
woofers gone wild From the pictures I see it looks like a really nice amp for the price. Dare I say DK-like in concept :-) If the problem is just misadjuctment of the pot to null DC offset it is a real easy fix. In fact, the circuit board may have markings to ident...
woofers gone wild Your amp has DC voltage on its output. If the cones move a centimeter this voltage is way more than normal. The amp needs adjustment.
Cable isolators ??? Honest1...The loudspeaker in the box with the (outboard) phono preamp was driven by a spare power amp. The test signal played through the loudspeaker was a "warble" tone that I swept over the range of 22.5 Hz to 250 Hz. (I may have also used a whi...
Cable isolators ??? Brainwater...Sorry, I forgot tube electronics which are microphonic, and would benefit from vibration isolation. Apart from that we agree to disagree. What the hell...Vibration control, along with exotic cables are what is keeping the high end ind...
What's The Word On The Street? Bel Canto Ref 1000 The ICE age is over. Get an amp using a UcD module, like Channel Island Audio D-200, or to really save money go to www.hypex.nl.
Why hasn't America discovered the Fertin sound yet Laurentgilles...I gather that "Fieldcoil" is what they call a driver that has an electromagnet instead of a permanent magnet. These were common about 70 years ago when the electromagnet field coil also served as an inductor in the receiver power s...
Cable isolators ??? I was doubtful about vibration having an effect on electronics, much less wires. Rather than argue about it, I put a high gain circuit (phono preamp) into a box along with a small speaker system and a SPL meter. Ran the SPL up to about 110dB, and ...
Does the balanced output of the Sony SCD-1 invert If it does invert, and you don't want it to do so, just reverse the (+) and (-) signal connections at the XLR output connectors. If you do it at the speakers you will invert all the other sources.
Good Grief. Another Tchaikovsky already. Sugarbrie...Agree about Hillary Hahn. Quite apart from the less than spectacular performance I find the Multichannel mix to be aweful. With a center channel to work with they cut poor Hillary in half and put the pieces in Left and Right, with almo...
Good Grief. Another Tchaikovsky already. Check out Bell's web site...joshuabell.com. Of particular interest is the lengthy writeup about the history of the Strad he plays.
Clever Little Clock - high-end audio insanity? Albertporter...."This is no laughing matter, one more man, one less woman, and an audiophile somewhere is all alone on Saturday night". Perhaps not so big a problem. It may just be a stereotype, but the word on the street is that audiophiles are p... |
