Best Class A / Class AB SS Power Amplifiers between $5000-$10,000
I have enjoyed my McIntosh MC452 now for about three years, and see they've got a new MC462 coming out this month.  The MC452 pairs really well with my Focal Sopra No2 speakers.
Pros and cons of leaving your DAC on 24/7
I don't leave my equipment powered "on" all the time, don't want to consume that much electricity.  My amp and preamp "automagically" power themselves off after so many minutes of inactivity (no way to adjust that), and my DACs throw off a lot of ...
Dac Technology Mature?
Of all the components in a high-end audio system, IMO the DACs are the ones currently enjoying the most improvements.Certainly, as time marches on, amps, preamps, speakers, etc. are improving, but IMO those technologies are pretty much "mature".On...
The Question,Tekton Pendragons or Focal 1028 BE
IMO the Tekton's tend to "shout" whereas the midrange on the Focals is very pleasing to me.  But you and I hear differently, so please do yourself a favor and spend some quality time with all the speakers you are considering, to find the one which...
Wilson Audio Sabrina . . . I'm smitten. Should I consider others?
In the end, buy what sounds best to YOUR ears.  We all hear differently and we all enjoy our systems differently.  One other thing to note...I find the final sound I enjoy is the synergy of the components, so it might be a good idea to experience ...
Wilson Audio Sabrina . . . I'm smitten. Should I consider others?
I took a year or so, visiting all sorts of audio shops in my search for a new pair of speakers. On one visit, before my listening, the salesman asked me of I preferred "analytic" or "musical" speakers, interesting way to put it.  I thought for a mo...
Focal Sopra 2 thoughts?
I have heard the Sopra No3's but at a show, not a great audition, music was too loud, lots of people in the room, music I wasn't familiar with.  It seemed that the No3's had a little more bass impact, but this was not an ideal way to do an auditio...

Thermals1,Mine are in a room that is 24' x 26'.  I've had subs for several of my setups over the years and after going thru the heartache of getting them working well, enjoy having them. The bass that the Sopra's have is very good, but IMO subs add...
Looking for straight talk on Focal Sopra No 2 speakers
I've been enjoy my Sopra No2's now for nearly three years (got one of the first pairs to hit our shores).  I have been changing out this, upgrading that, but with my current setup, no desire to do any more of that.I have nothing but good things to...
MAC Autoformers?
Wow!  Lots of opinions here!In my case, my McIntosh MC452 pairs really well with my Focal Sopra No2 speakers, I can listen to them for many hours without fatigue.  I enjoy this combination very much, very much the only thing I really care about.
MAC Autoformers?
" The only negative with Mac autoformers is in doubling the amplifier cost and weight"So true!  I had to get help from my neighbor to get the carton from my car into the house, get the beast unboxed, unbolted from the plywood base, and lifted up ...
MAC Autoformers?
I'm by no means an engineer, but very much appreciate the technical descriptions of why some amplifiers are designed with autoformers. One comment about McIntosh owning the patent.  The patent on that invention expired long ago.  I think the more v...

I got my Sopra No2's about three years ago, when the first shipment to the U.S. arrived from France.  My "man cave" is a 24 x 26 x8 room, with a carpeted concrete form.  I drive them with a McIntosh MC452 (450 wpc) amp, when I'm really playing mus...
McIntosh MC152 vs MC162
I would agree with the others who recommend the MC152.  Not only does it have the autoformers, it have both single ended and XLR inputs, more up to date circuitry (I believe the new generation output transistors), and would most-likely have much l...
NAD Preamp
I owned and loved NAD equipment for several years, but nearly each and every piece needed service, some in warranty, some just beyond.
