Warranty Misconceptions
Just thought I'd share the Classe policy in this matter. I emailed with them on this within the last couple of months. They do allow transferring the warranty, but only with the involvement of a dealer.
Cables to mitigate CD glare -upper mids/lower hi's
Newbee, I would like to hear more about how you hook up the tone control, and what model you use. I would like to do this if it can be done for $500 or less.
old acurus integrated vs. separates vs. new nad
p.s. I have also listened to the RL-11 through the RB-981, and it sounded much better than a top-end Rotel pre-amp. I would definitely go the used route if possible, you will get much better sound. The Classe has some nice features (more full-feat...
old acurus integrated vs. separates vs. new nad
Mike is right on here. The Acurus amps are also too bright for me (I auditioned the RL-11 with an A-80 alongside some other choices). Even though I tend to like a "detailed" (i.e., bright) presentation. The NAD C370 is the opposite extreme. Dark an...
2ch to 1ch... Stereo to Mono issues.
One way to do this is to use a "passive resistive network". Normally used after the power amp (not after the pre) -- in other words, put both stereo channels from your amp into one of these, then feed the speaker from that. The guys who setup expe...
Help w/ new speaker search
Have fun auditioning speakers! You will benefit by adding (at some point) a high-quality 2-channel amp, and leaving the RMB-1075 for just the surround channels.
Antenna questions
Hi John,Thanks for your reply. This is the Winegard antenna I am looking at. It's cheaper than the APS-9, and it's bigger, but not as big as the enormous APS-13. It has about the same gain as the APS-9, per the APS website. It doesn't have as high...
Antenna questions
Hi gang,Thanks for the good info, keep the comments coming!I bought the $22 Radio Shack antenna and played with it extensively last night in my attic, to compare with the current roof-mount omnidirectional antenna. The public radio station in ques...
Antenna questions
Sean, thanks, that is the exact Radio Shack model I was considering. It turns out the gain of this antenna isn't listed anywhere. The other Radio Shack models all seem to have some extra elements for picking up UHF, which doesn't help with FM, so ...
FM radio enthusiasts
Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, my local radio shack says that the current rotor has been current for some time, and that there is no older stock to put on sale. The Radio Shack website doesn't list a sale either. So it appears that this good d...
Dealer's demo recordings
Albert, nice mention of Allison Kraus' album. This has been my favorite lately. I had it for a few years, but never thought much of her voice (sort of wished she had stuck with fiddling, I thought her voice sounded thin). Then spun the CD again af...
Amps and pre amps to improve on VMPS RM40 system
I wonder if this is the CDs? My Led Zeppelin CDs are all horribly mastered, and much of the classical I have bought isn't that good either.Do you currently have no pre-amp? If so, you could be seeing a mismatch between CD player and amp that would...
Review: Sennheiser HD580 Precision Headphones Tweak
Boy, I listened to the Creek and the Senn 580s at a dealer and was rather dissappointed. It may have been the cheapie walkman portable CD player he used to feed the Creek. I couldn't convince him that he needed to demo headphones with a better CD ...

Integrated Preamp/Tuner?
I haven't seen other responses on this, so I'll jump in.To start with you might want to search on the forums. I asked this same question a year or two ago. Two vendors that come to mind are Adcom and B&K, but I believe others were suggested as...
