A-B testing of cables
Not sure what that markup tag isn't working. Try this one: http://www.roger-russell.com/truth/truth.htm#truthandsuper.

A-B testing of cables
Roger Russell dealt with this subject at McIntosh. While his testing at the time didn't specifically address IC cables, the came to some interesting conclusions. Link [urlhttp://www.roger-russell.com/truth/truth.htm#truthandsuper]here[/url]. You c...
Does anyone run 2 or more turntables...
I have one optimized for superior fidelity and the other rigged for records that are not in the best condition.
Help with Turntable/arm/cart decision
Give consideration to Sota, as well. Nice tables, well isolated and reasonably priced. A refurbished Sapphire can be as little as $1700, which leaves a lot left over for arm and cartridge. Make sure you get an arm with easily adjustable VTA - it m...
McIntosh MA 6100 modifications
Besides Roxy's excellent suggestions, an LED kit may be available. Not sure where you're located, but consider giving Audio Classics in Vestal NY a call. They are true experts with this stuff and are pretty reasonable, too. Good luck & happy l...
effect of new cartridge
Generally speaking, you'll want to have your transducers be complimentary to each other as a start and cartridges can make a huge difference. Not knowing what you feel you may be missing, it's difficult to speculate on what might be an improvement...
Chris Squire, Rest in Peace
A true loss who will be greatly missed from a group that should have been in the Rock Hall years ago. I'll have to listen to The Fish in memoriam.
Phono preamp with two inputs: two MMs or MM+MC?
RGR (Robert Grodinsky Research) made a very nice preamp back in the 70s & 80s that had 2 MM inputs with independently adjustable loading specifically to address a broad variety of situations. The first version was Model 4 and the second (impro...
Turntable placement
@ Pryso, I understood your post. I was merely offering comments on my personal experiences with tables picking up resonances, both airborne and structural. The Rega picked up everything and the only thing I ever found that worked was moving it far...
Turntable placement
For years, I had my table about 12' to one side of the listening area on a piece of stone and that worked very well with my unsuspended Rega Planar 2. It picked up just about everything. After making the change to my Sota, I didn't notice any diff...
RIP Kirk Bodinet SOTA
I am hugely bummed - Kirk really helped me out on refurbishing my Sapphire and it came back even better than it was when new back in the day. He will be missed.
cartridge hum on right channel
Static discharge, even at zero attenuation, can do all kinds of funky things. Time for the for the isolation drill. Presuming you have checked another input source and it's OK, change out the armwand to the one that you knew (last time anyway) tha...
McIntosh MA5200
@ ZD - You ARE a cranky one, aren't you? I couldn't care less about you personally and have no interest in bickering, although it appears you do. You may wish to note that I implied absolutely nothing other than if one is dropping $5K+, one might ...
McIntosh MA5200
@ ZD542: Of course speakers don't have a uniform impedance. 8, 6 or 4 are merely nominal ratings and very few companies ever explicitly state the range. One exception is Martin Logan, where their manuals do state a minimum impedance. A friend who ...
