My LP couldn't beat my CD, until now
As has been stated the technics table is a DJ table at best and cannot even be considered a highend table.
Spkr, interconects, or power cable upgrade first?
If you are looking for very good inexpensive interconnects, Paul Speltz anti-cables is the way to go (not anything from Radio Shack)Anti-cables easily have bested cables costing 25x their cost($100 for 1 meter pr.rca's)
Spkr, interconects, or power cable upgrade first?
I ditto powercords, they make the biggest difference, if they are quality powercords!!I suspect IMHO that folks that say powercords don't make a difference or at best a subtle difference, are not using the best powercords they can get for the mone...
Speaker Help Required
I have a similar situation, my room is 15'x 13' with catheral ceiling and opening on the right side. I have my equipment setup similarly. The only difference I think is I have about a foot(12in)of wall on the right side before the opening occurs. ...
Pass, Bryston, Audio Research, or McIntosh?
Audio Research mates very well with maggies. They used to be recommended by ARC for their equipment.
low output MC phono preamp for Audio Research pre
What is the output of your cartridge? Audio Research PH-3 and PH-3se phono preamps have a gain of 54db which should be sufficient enough for most low output MC'sYou can get a PH-3 for around $700 and a PH-se for about $1050-$1100.
Are there any 6H30's with a sweet upper midrange?
What 6h30's have you used so far? Unfortunately, there are not a lot of variations out there to choose from.At the top of the list are the 6h30dr's which at this point for me are cost prohibitive(between $300-$350pr.)then you have sovtek and elect...
Conquered the itch for high$ NOS
Bravo for you Stubby. I'm glad to hear some other folks have finally seen the light. I certainly have. I recently purchased some electro harmonix 6h30pi gold's to replace the nos 6h30dr's that I currently have which I paid $100 for a pair 2yrs.ago...
New CD player for an Ayre cx-7e
Yes this is normal. When 6db's are gained, your volume level will have to be decreased from what it was as you have gained more in detail and lowered your noise floor which translates into blacker backgrounds as you have described. As for the anti-...
What should I change
Your first mistake was getting rid of the ARC equipment, So, I would start by going back to that and I think most of your problem would be solved.
Decca London Gold cartridge nightmare
Teeny increments? I wouldn't recommend ever pulling the stylus tip on a decca backwards. That's asking for trouble. If you look at the construction, you can see that its very delicate(flimsy) at best. Any attempt at adjusting, unless you are a qual...
Confused...not satisfy with my system :
Avico, you said that you have tried power cables and did not hear a difference but you did not say what power cords you have tried? Respectfully,if you have not tried the ones I've mentioned then I think you are doing yourself a disservice.I too u...
Decca London Gold cartridge nightmare
Dubhouse, yes I'm still using mercury bath in mine.
Decca London Gold cartridge nightmare
Dubhouse, I have not done any mods as of yet, however I have thought about it but you have to be careful about those kinds of things as the decca's can be notorius for hum if things are not done just right. My philosophy is if ain't broke don't fi...
Confused...not satisfy with my system :
You didn't mention what kind of powercords you are using but I've found that powercords make the single most significant improvement in sound, without changing components. Speaker cables and interconnects are important as well but if you have dece...
