Luxman C 1010 restoration. Worth it?
I've decided to go for it and have already found a Luxman expert in my neighborhood who will do the job. Thanks for confirming it's worth doing that. It was precisely what I was hoping to hear 😃
Two Turntables? Why
Why not?I have three totally different systems divided over two rooms. One is what could be called mainstream modern high end, with big dipole panels and solid state amplification. The other system in the room is vintage Japanese (a personal 1970'...
Pioneer CS-T8 vintage speakers
I took delivery of these speakers a few days ago and since nobody seems to be familiar with them, I figured it might be helpful to add some comments myself. Just in case someone develops an interest in the future and wishes to find some user info....
Sound, neutrality and the pursuit of everything
For me it eventually comes down to 'suspension of disbelief'. There simply is no way to close the gap with live music, either acoustical instruments in a dedicated real acoustic space (sometimes called 'the absolute sound') or amplified instrument...
WHat did Audiophiles hear during Tape deck era?
Of course vinyl ruled back then, but as a college kid I had a musical appetite that far exceeded my budget to buy all the music I wanted on records. And RTR tapes were not cheap either, so the most cost effective way to build a music collection wa...
Fidelity Research FR64s Headshell dilemma
Oyaide HS CF is also a good one if you need the extra head(shell)room. But this is a low mass carbon fiber shell. So maybe not the best choice for the 64s, unless you have the W-170 counter weight to compensate.
Fidelity Research FR64s Headshell dilemma
Dear Nandric, ignoring ego would be a great first step....
Fidelity Research FR64s Headshell dilemma
Dear Nandric, I live in a society that is purported to be anti-authoritarian. Like many of my fellow citizens I’m deeply committed to question authority of any kind. Most of all when derived from power, ego or just a big mouth. Like politicians an...
THE GOLDEN AGE OF TURNTABLES!
@mijostyn, actually we may not be that far apart. I also made gradual upward steps over many years to increase performance level. From 1990’s Krell amplification (KRC HR + KPE Ref and FPB600) to 2000’s Boulder (1008, 1010 and 1060) and from 1990’s...
THE GOLDEN AGE OF TURNTABLES!
Deur Nandric, collecting cartridges is one of the most rational obsessions I can imagine 😊. Not at all like Tulips or Magical Financial Products..... But it's not always easy to explain why certain 'objects' are expensive. Scarcity is one reason, ...
THE GOLDEN AGE OF TURNTABLES!
Dear petg60, the only thing the audio 'press' does is to hide the truth and try to convince us that the newest is always the best. It is what keeps the business going. They're the industry's mouthpiece.....Dear Nandric, do you mean Turntables ARE ...
Recording during the 70's
You’re right, I should have been more precise. Recording with 4 or 8 tracks was available in the ’60s, but that was still a long way from the 24 track machines (and more) that became available in the ’70’s. This was the multitracking technology th...
THE GOLDEN AGE OF TURNTABLES!
@petg60, "Only thing that changed is media revealing what we were not aware of at the time"If by this you mean audiophile reissues, even that ain't the truth. The best original vinyl pressings from the Golden Age will sound better than those reiss...
Recording during the 70's
Absolutely. The recording of acoustic instruments in a real space - referred to by some as ’The Absolute Sound’ - reached its peak in that era. Not in spite of limited technology, but thanks to it. In the early stereo days engineers only had a few...
Recording during the 70's
Recording in the '70s became a whole different ballgame with the introduction of multitracking. For rock music this opened up a whole new world, piling track upon track in ever more elaborate productions. This put new demands on engineering and mi...
