Great country recording
Johnny Cash, I Walk the Line. As bare bones a production that has ever come down. Perhaps a hint of brightness and occasional microphone grit from Cash’s vocals, but my now 30 year old plus vinyl remains a treat to listen to.Emmylou Harris’ Luxury...
Your favorite Mahler recordings on vinyl
Bruno Walter, Symphony #1.Solti, Symphony #2.Horenstein, Symphony #3.Haitink, Concertgebow, Symphony #4. It was back in the 1970’s. I’d never heard Mahler and I wasn’t very interested in exploring his stuff. I was in my twenties. This performance ...
When Did Your System Disappear?
It still happens only rarely.  Yeah, I don't have the power or componentry to virtually put me in an actual concert hall, large club or sports venue like the Inglewood Forum, but I can achieve a convincing aura of real life when I put on a small j...
MQA DAC with Coax Output
Krilll -- enjoy Tidal!  As for all the criticism of Mytek on this website, I just let it wash over me.  When it comes to the Brooklyn, I just haven't heard it.  I live three+ thousand miles away from the nearest Hi-End dealer.  I can say, though, ...
Finally.......Pleasant sounding strings on a modest system
I agree that orchestra string sections can be a real bee-otch when it comes to reproduction at home.  I admit to having a Prima Luna Prologue as well, and it's gotten me closer to anything I ever got from trannies.  My modestly priced NOLA Boxers ...
MQA DAC with Coax Output
I've gotten a couple "tut, tut, oh you poor boy" responses from other posters here but I really like my Mytek Brooklyn Bridge.  A good fifty percent of the time I get better fidelity streaming Qobuz and Primephonic through the device than I get fr...
How far away from your speakers are you?
There's no way I can measure the distance exactly, but my head is a couple inches past 7' from the speakers.  I did my share of experimenting/auditioning, too, before I settled on that distance.  And this five+ decade audiophile continues to be a ...
How do you sort your LPs?
I've known folks who deliberately put their music collections in totally random order so that people who come over won't be able to choose what to put on.  As a matter of fact, I may have done this at one time.
Restored Rek-O-Kut L-34 Available Locally - Any Opinions on This Table Appreciated
I remember the Rec-O-Kut idler drive turntable I inherited from my dad.  I was fine with waiting for the turntable to get to speed, but I have to say that the TT really "wowed" me in all the wrong ways.
How do you sort your LPs?
Mostly by Classical vs. Everything Else.  Classical by composer but only when it makes logical sense.  Separate sections for boutique labels such as M.A. and Harmonia Mundi.  Operas and gigantic box sets on the top shelf because they collectively ...
What, in your system, have you owned the longest?
SOTA Sapphire.  Early 1980's.  Suitably upgraded over the Centuries.
Top ten American composers/songwriters
I think we've reached ten.
Top ten American composers/songwriters
Keep ’em coming. A lot of quality names. Leonard Cohen, however, is a Canadian. Ahem...  But Joni can be counted in because she abandoned Canada for New York and then L.A.
Top ten American composers/songwriters
Good list.  But Frank Zappa is certainly a contender.    So is Leonard Bernstein.  Laura Nyro.  Eric Whitacre.  Miles Davis.  Charles Ives.  So is Jimmy Webb.  Don't put down Jimmy!
The Eagles Greatest Hits - Question
As implied in the posts above, it's gotta be a money issue.
