Best debut album
As much as I loved the Sex Pistols, they were too much of a one trick pony.  I still regret, though, that I missed them when they played the Roxy (or was it the Whisky?).  I went to buy a ticket.  They had already sold out....not the Pistols thems...
Best debut album
Did I ever mention that I didn't like CSN's debut album because I thought it felt fussed over and a little tame?  Then I saw them in concert at either the Greek or the Hollywood Bowl.  They were wonderful.  Loose and virtuosic. They got still bett...
Classical Music for Aficionados
I love Moravec.  Did I see him perform once?  I think so but can't quite remember.  And only if he performed in L.A.
A light-hearted essay on loving music vs the audiophilia obsession
Sorry, I'm the only person left on earth that doesn't have Facebook.
Best debut album
petg60 -- Pink Floyd's first album was Piper at the Gates of Dawn.  I actually went looking for it in my vinyl collection.  Damn, I must have sold it eons ago.  I bought it for Interstellar Overdrive.
Best debut album
I just gotta echo the selections mentioned by all you guys.  That Nancy Wilson with Cannonball Adderly!  Zeppelin!  Doors!  Are You Experienced!  I'll add Pearl Jam's debut.
How do you share the sweet spot?
I always order the guest (or guests) to sit in the sweet spot.  Hey, I'm always in the sweet spot.  I can easily live with my system's patently miserable off-center sound (I joke!)  so that guests might get a clue as to how wonderful the high-end ...
Black vs. Colored Vinyl
I've always figured that because colored vinyl is usually used in special/limited editions, chances are that they might undergo a bit more post-pressing inspection.  And yes, I've found this to be true.  Then again, it all inevitably comes down to...
Strange Rivers
Did any of you read my post where I mention being on American Bandstand?  Well, one of the cassette tapes I got from the rating-the-record segment was John Stewart's California Bloodlines.  I didn't like it on first listen, as his rolling baritone...

daveyf -- As thread topics often do, the topic of the thread diverged from your original post.  I was just going with the flow.  And yeah, it's terrible.  Trying to control the direction of a thread is like...as the cliche goes...trying to herd cats.

I'm much more forgiving when it comes to the audio rags.   Even though Atkinson himself is too dry and data-driven for me, he has collected an entertaining, erudite staff.  I just love the pictures of the hardware, whether they're in the articles ...
What is it you do?
I cruise this demnible website.
Are manufacturer AC cables good enough?
Stop worrying about crunching data.  Stop worrying about whether you've been peddled snake oil.  It's okay to go goo-goo-eyed over a price but if the price is comfortable to you after you calm down a little, why the heck not?  Over the years I've ...
Sharing some of your favorite Music FM stations that are now online?...
I now longer listen to radio, but for many years KUSC was my go-to classical station.  I subscribed to it for many years.  Sound was not quite to the level of LP or even CD but it was still plenty good enough for the car.  The DJs all had personal...
Worth upgrading from Mytek Brooklyn to Mytek Brooklyn Bridge?
When I finally decided to go truly digital after years with only a CD/SACD player and a turntable in my system, I essentially skipped all intermediate steps and bought a Brooklyn Bridge.  Previous to that, my only non-Compact Disc digital came via...
