Tube tester I can listen to
the TV-7 has jacks you can plug headphones into. Try that first... Really, there is no good way to test for microphonics except to put it in the circuit in the gear it will be used it. Anything else is an approximation at best. -Ed
Question about Gain, amp power and volume
Most any amp will sound best wide open. Volume controls (Esp. cheaper ones) are rather non-linear at the lower ends of their ranges. So I can see why he wants to run it more wide open.
Classe CA-200
The side-heatsinks is the later model. Basically the side-heatsinked versions are the same as the *01 versions (201, et al) in the older case. a good bargain, and a nice amp overall. I have a CA200 and it has served well. Has a propensity to pop i...
Suggestions for rear speakers to go with Aerials
I have aerial 6s as well (and 5s, and a cc3b soon). You might try the older L-series ADS. They never made a HT-oriented speaker (e.g. dipole/bipole) but some of their small monitors are quite nice in that position. L300, L400, L470, 570, etc. Many...
platinum audio solo's
The grilles are easy to remove - at least mine were. No damage incurred. If you guys don't find these bright, try comparing them to something else at the same time. They are without doubt the brightest 2-way small monitor I have ever heard. Metal ...
platinum audio solo's
If you want a good sounding monitor, snap up the $1000 pair of Aerial 5s that were listed a few days ago. They kick the ass of Plat. solos. Another good choice would be Paradigm studio 20s. I had platinum solos on loan for a while. I found them br...

The best Beatles recording on CD
He has some of the songs, not the recordings. Yellow Submarine was remastered recently, IIRC, and was supposed to be quite good.-Ed
There's no accounting for taste....
old news. I am sure it rocks.
Harbeth question: Which speakers to keep?
The HL5 has more bass than the 30, but the cabinet is bigger so no surprise there. The 30 tweeter, while initially sounding a bit laid back, is really quite refined. Definitely a big step up from 7ES. I'd probably take the 30s myself, though if ru...
Harbeth question: Which speakers to keep?
The 7ES are nice, no doubt. More bass than either of the types you have. Personally, I like the Monitor 30 and Super HL5 better than the 7s by a fair bit. If you can stretch for one of those, they are worth the difference, IMHO.-Ed
Are You Happy With 2 Channel SACD?
You need a pre-pro with analog pass-thru. Yes, analog interconnects required. -Ed
Current Trends in multi thousand dollar speakers
Have any of you actually listened to the 20Ts at length? I have, in a suite which was non-ideal, @ CES. Numbers be damned, those are some *fine* sounding speakers. If I had the $ and space, I'd throw down for a pair in a second. One of the best dy...
Reliable,inexpensive, 6SN7 tube
GE is quite reasonable, as well as some RCAs. Take a look @ my ad that I posted today - stuff starting @ $20pr or less. '-Ed
