5751 tubes -- Raytheon They are most likely made by Raytheon. Hard to say w/o looking. Probably earlier than windmill getter, almost certainly. More scarce? hard to say. THere is much hoarding going on with the windmill types, so difficult to say how many are out there,...
Still pondering Paradigms ML Aerius i's, with a small sub should work in that budget and room. Studio 40s are nice (I had some 20s for a while) but totally different speaker. Generally yes, the ML's are better sounding, indeed.-Ed
Ham Radio Interference from next door neighboor Sure, Call the FCC and have them pay him a visit to see if his rig is over the legal limit. Have him check his antenna set up for leakage. good luck-Ed
Which power conditioner for large amp and digital? PS Audio P1200 or p1000; or, a balanced power iso tranny ala Equitech 2Q. Either should support that amp fine. -Ed
Aerial 9 to 10T The 9 is more modern, and better looking. Still, the 10T is a formidable speaker (esp. the 2nd generation ones), which I think require a bit more effort to set up, however they are an excellent value of late... selling for very reasonable money it...
Tube Shelf Life Getter material doesnt' need to be hot to do its' job. Old tubes can work a long time. In my main rig, the preamp is using tubes from the 1920s, and the ones in the amps are from the late 20s through 1940s.-Ed
How do I measure a component's frequency response? Basically, no. To do so and get meaningful results requires more sophisticated test equipment than that. the AP system (audio precision) or some combination of audio frequency signal generators and a scope (among other things). -Ed
Tube Shelf Life They should be fine.
Speakers similar to Avantgarde horn Edgarhorns. Forget Avantgarde solos - those things are WAY fuglier than the uno/duo/trio. Sound worse to boot (IMHO) than the uno/duo, not that the unos/duos/etc are the cat's meow either, even. -Ed
recommend a good computer and digital camera? "Being a Mac user is like being a Navy SEAL: a small, elite group of people with access tothe most sophisticated technology in the world, who everyone calls on to get the really tough jobs done quickly and efficiently."
recommend a good computer and digital camera? He can easily get an Emac or iMac for around $1000, that will kick a pc's ass, hands down, from every standpoint that matters. initial cost is but one (small) part of total cost of ownership. Factor in downtime, hassles, virii, crashes, repairs, s...
Citation 22 suddenly blowing fuses, anyone help? I have a Cit 24 - almost the same amp. These were made into the mid/late 80s and if it's had regular use, it's not the caps. (these don't have a lot of 'big caps' in general, not like a vintage tube amp built with electrolytics ala CJ et al. ) Min...
recommend a good computer and digital camera? Agreed, forget wintel boxes, get a Mac and be done with it. Anything else is a lesser choice at best. canon S500 powershot is a very nice cam for reasonable money. For a bit more, I'd step up to the EOS rebel digital or the EOS 10D. (those make ex...
Opinions: Avantgarde Trios/Basshorns I have heard them on multiple occasions. They are not bad, per se, but not worth the $. Big in-your-face type of sound. Despite the name, the basshorns are not really horns... more like subs with a horn-shaped front end to them. (at bass frequenci...
My opinions re. SET and pp triode hi George - congrats on making a leap into that -the big 845 is such a nice tube. And if the sophia 205 is anything like the WE 205, that's a hell of a nice tube too. Glad that you like what you hear - I think in general SET stuff is my favorite t... |
