String alternative for Eurolab TT
If your string is breaking off every few days, that should be because you have the tension too tight. You want the string tension to be able to give at least half an inch to 3/4 inch, maybe even an inch, when pushed with a finger. That should solv...
allearts cartridges and rebuilding
Interesting comments. Heard about this exhibit, but what intruiges me is the 'real life' point. I get that from a Shroeder model 2, so it would have been fascinating to switch the cartridges. My Allearts MC1S is arriving in a couple of weeks and w...
Which phono preamp?
Re 'The Groove'. Its one of the finest audio components i've heard. Brings out the presence and 3d imagery/solidity of vinyl better than anything else i've heard. Pure magic. I have the microgroove plus, and it is very good as well. after 10 days ...
Audiomeca Romance TT and Romeo Arm
see very good review on tnt audio site. Geoff husband very impressed with the tt.
Acoustic Signature Final Tool vs Michell Obre, etc
I havent heard the teres but by all accounts its good. I've got the Eurolab Premiere (which the Teres is partly based on) and can vouch for its impressive reputation. Either would be a good choice, and leave lots to spare for a good tonearm.
Analog Front End for 5000
I'd second the eurolab with either morch arm (you can get them at a good price from phonophono.de). The teres is interesting too, but i havent heard it.
Comments on Cary 303 CD Player
Hi, i've had the cary 303 100 for almost a year now, and can't recommend it highly enough. havent heard the 200's but im a big fan of the pc100 chip. This cary is to my ear one of the most analogue sounding cd's made. There is simply no digital ha...
Am I the only one who thinks B&W is mid-fi?
I have a friend who has a nautilus 802 home cinema setup and it sounds good. I now use an old set of dm110's for the surrounds in cinema and they are good as well. for audio I find them less than convincing. The top B+W models need lots of power, ...
19th Nervous Breakdown...
Here's another angle. Rather than looking out for the gear, try finding a vinyl expert or a good vinyl dealer in your area. They will often have really good old gear that has been abandoned in an upgrade and are now not worth much, but can have fa...
Turntable/Arm in 1500-2000 Range
You might also want to consider the eurolab premiere. I have sprung floors and built a floor standing rack that does get a good job with the problem. best
Best Kept Speaker Secret?
living voice avatar obx - very rare but live up to legendary reputation.
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
Maintain your mains: Simple free tweak. Find the ring which your system is attached to, switch off mains and Deoxit the mains wiring connections and check they are clean. tighten the connection with a screwdriver. Do the same with the wall plug. T...
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
My problem is less cost justification (i've taken the cowards way out and just don't discuss how much this stuff costs) but WAF (wife acceptance factor). I came across a sort of solution by bringing home a monolithic rear projection tv. She hated ...
Looking or a Used player/Dac for under 2000.
Look at the Cary 303. Mind you it does take a long time to burn in (mine took 2 months), but it is a remarkable machine.
recommended speakers for SET amp?
Look into whether you can get hold of living voice auditoriums in your price range. They ought to work, though you should contact living voice to confirm. Work majically with most tubes, though havent heard the zens.
