Am I having a problem with static?
Yes, Raul as usual is absolutely right. Check if your turntable and arm are grounded or not. I've got one tt with no ground, but managed to attach a ground to the bass of the spindle bearing. That helped with static.
Am I having a problem with static?
Static depends on a lot of things (carpet, ventilation etc) but try keeping a moist sponge near the turntable, and also cover an old record in a piece of tin foil, and rest the record on it to remove the static (this is an alternative to the gun. ...
Cleaning old record collection.. advise please
With mildew I'd be inclined to use a two stage process. I'd start off with a manual wash using the Knosti Disco Antistat washer (available www.audiophilecandy.com and other places £45). I'd use a solution of 35-40% isopropyl alcohol (not for shell...
Time for a "massive" turntable: Spacedeck vs Scheu
I've owned a Scheu for several years, and happily match it with the best arms and cartridges. I don't believe i've heard its inherent limitations yet. Build quality is superb, far above our UK competition (excepting SME and Simon Yorke). Nottingha...
Schroeder vs. Triplanar VII Sonic Differences
My understanding is that the nordost wiring is cyrogenically treated, and that is an improvement on the thin copper. I thought i'd heard it at the London show, but the arm in the GTA Tron /exhibit wasn't a full SQ apparently. Still, impressive eno...
Ideal TT & Arm for the following top cartridges...
Raul is absolutely right about tonearm & phonostage matching with the Mc2 Finish. I use it now with a Schroeder DPS, but have ordered a Reference SQ because while the DPS is an excellent match sonically once you've found the right settings, th...
Record Cleaning Machine
Yes, the Keith Monks stands out, followed closely by the Loricraft. The others are all vacuum suction, and tend to be more or lessloud. The Clearaudio double Matrix or some of the Blue Danube stand out among these.
Helikon LOADING
I seem to remember hearing that 530-580 ohms is recommended in most circumstances.

Best Temporary Record Cleaning Options
Try the Knosti Disco Antistat (available www.audiophilecandy.com) at ca. £45. Works very well, as long as you keep cleaning the brushes.
Schroder: Model 2 or DPS?
No, you can use the DPS on any table. You need to make sure you can have an arm board that can mount a schroeder, thats all. I've used it on a Scheu, Garrard, SME.best
Schroder: Model 2 or DPS?
I had the carbon 2 for a couple of years, and really prefer the DPS. On my turntables the 2 was an absolutely worthwhile improvement over good unipivots. The DPS I find is a masterpiece of an arm and not really outclassed by any other arm i've heard.
Jan Allaerts Cartridge Experience?
Thanks Raul. I'm having a hard time waiting, and I pester Jan far too often. Meanwhile i've had my Tom Evans Groove Plus changed to 845 ohms, and i'm trying to find out if there's a good step up transformer that will work with the cartridge as wel...
Jan Allaerts Cartridge Experience?
Of course its so much a matter of personal taste, but I've had the MC1B and the MK2 (usually on Schroeder DPS), and I find them outstandingly musical and involving. I'm not too happy comparing, but for me they are in a slightly different class to ...
Setup Dynavector XV-1s on SME V help
You can also check antiskate by getting a grooveless record, turning the turntable on and checking which way the arm moves when lowered onto the record. Then compensate. The HFN test record has a grooveless test band, which will work, though with ...
