Should people with no turntable or reel to reel be considered audiophiles?
I have a turntable. I don't know if I have an Audiophile Card, but if I do can someone tell me where I go to relinquish it. Or can I just burn it?
Is there usually a dramatic difference between $5k and $10k cartridges ?
If you don’t have the turntable, arm, phono cables and phono-stage to support a high-end cartridge you might not hear much of a difference between $5k and $10k. A $10k cartridge might just as well expose the flaws of the system as anything if you ...
Clearaudio Innovation [Wood] vs Master Innovation
@mgrif104 Oh, my bad, I didn’t check my editing well enough. The turntable I had prior to my Innovation was a Clearaudio Ovation. I had that for about 12 years. I was actually quite happy with it, but had a windfall that afforded me the upgrade t...

It's my pleasure to show you how to make wallets defy gravity and levitate.  But yeah, a true mono cartridge really brings new life to mono records. It was a revelation for me how good it is.

@luis223344 What’s nice about my setup is I have the exact mono counterpart to my stereo cartridge (Lyra Atlas: SL + Mono), both on identical tonearms on the same turntable. Both also run through the same phono-stage. I’ve been able to really see...
Clearaudio Innovation [Wood] vs Master Innovation
I definitely recommend the Innovation. It's a fantastic turntable. My Innovation has two Clearaudio Universal 12" tonearms, one for mono playback, and one for stereo. If I upgrade to the Master Innovation I will continue using both tonearms. I pr...

@luis223344 I have a lot of jazz/classical/rock mono records (hundreds). It was worth it to me to get another tonearm and a mono cartridge. Playing mono records with a true mono cartridge is so much better than playing them with a stereo cartridge...

I never went from a $5K to a $10 cartridge but I did go from a $5650 Dynavector XV-1s to a $12,995 Lyra Atlas Lambda SL (both have since gone up in price). As great as the XV-1s is, there's no contest. The Lyra spanks it in every category, and the...
Turntable Upgrade
I think VTA on-the-fly is overrated. I had that on my Clearaudio Ovation and found I never used it if I wanted to listen to music. When I upgraded to a Clearaudio Innovation I didn't bother getting the arm board that supports fitting the Clearaudi...
How often do you upgrade turntable ?
I bought an LP12 ca. 1987, after using a Thorens TD126 Mk II for some years. The LP12 fell into disrepair and wasn't used for a long time. Then I got a Rega RP3 in 2010, a Clearaudio Ovation in 2011 and a Clearaudio Innovation in 2023. On the last...
Dusting gear and turntable
@oldaudiophile hey, you asked, so I answered.  I don't bother with a dust cover. I wouldn't be able to fit one for my turntable anyway, and it's really not a big problem.
Dusting gear and turntable
@oldaudiophile  Stereo Squares (stereosquares.com) will make acrylic dust covers to standard sizes and/or to spec. They do very nice work.
Dusting gear and turntable
I don't really have much issues with dust. My wife vacuums on a regular basis (2-3 times/week), and even checks that I have the stylus guards fitted to both tonearms before she goes into the listening room with it vacuum. I have a feather duster f...
Klimo type phono stage from China
fills the roll of dual inputs. 1 MM and 1 MC.  One MM and one MC does not fill the role of dual inputs in my book. That falls quite short compared to phono-stages that have two inputs, where each is configurable for either MM or MC independentl...
Karajan Mahler Six
There’s a Tracking Angle article/review by Mark Ward that’s very well written. https://trackingangle.com/music/the-original-source-does-mahler-on-steroids
