Are Audio Dealers Missing the Boat?
DedicatedAudio: A few questions... 1. Is this activity profitable for you? 2. Has it entwined you in any sticky legal consequences? 3. Have you heard of others doing this? 4. What are your ground rules? Except for Saturdays, every dealer I've been...
Are Audio Dealers Missing the Boat?
Nothing is gained? I get nervous sending a total stranger, who may live on the other side of the continent, big bucks for something they "promise" to send me (have you ever asked a seller to send you the item first? Before you pay? -ain't gonna ha...
what is a good sound stage suppose to sound like?
On this subject, your ears must be up-to-spec to hear good soundstaging. Through various trauma, my right ear doesn't hear much high frequency information. This definitely affects imaging and soundstaging.
The Scariest Story Ever Told?
I'd just moved into a new apartment and installed a ceiling fan in my listening room. This was in an ancient Chicago brown-stone building and the overhead wiring was very complex. Apparently, I'd combined two 115 volt lines into one. I reactivated...
300B Tubes - Which is Best?
The Western Electric 300B is THE class act in this arena. They have a rated life of 40,000 hours (the 6550 in my ARC VT-100 Mk-III are reated for 2000 hours/2 years). The designers took something like five years (from project genesis) before they re...
Sony 9000es v. Phillips 963SA - anyone compared?
Gthirteen: I give the nod to Sony for SACD. Haven't really used the 963 for SACD or DVD (gee!) -am totally happy with the 9000ES for these functions. The Philips (i.e., upsampling) gives timbres and textures much more "identity" than regular playb...
Sony 9000es v. Phillips 963SA - anyone compared?
I have both and could probably live without the Sony. The philips redbook performance blows me away! I don't think it's the ultimate, however, and will upgrade, (possibly to the new Arcam) in the future.I'm not up-to-speed on the latest Sony mods s...
Amp heat sinks are ringing
Didn't read the whole thread -did anyone suggest using spring-type wooden clothes pins? Clamp the suckers ON!
Electric guitar cable?
Not cable but Wavelength audio makes a 300B based one-speaker guitar amp! List for around 5K. Gotta love it...

Who's Your Favorite Bass Players; Why?
Audiotomb: Right on. I'd add: Leo Lyons (Ten Years After) and Ron Wood ('Stones) slapped it good in the Beck/Stewart days.
We all want to change the world. Really?
As sad as the "kill the bitch" mentality is, what's frightening is the "what do we do for an encore?".The future builds on and tries to outdue the past so where do you go when you're at the bottom of the barrel? The goons that produce this crap don...

Every make a purchase you truly regret?
Any music recommended as the reviewer's "favorite". I won't name names but wish I had the money back from some of these stinkers! Never buy music you haven't heard first (Well, most classical is pretty good...). Also, bought what I thought was an ...
power cords for Audio Research gears
My ARC sounds thrilling using the factory chords.
