Vandersteen fans..need your input (TREO CT) I've found that low volume listening depends on your amp's power supply. A well designed "stiff" power supply will provide details and dynamic contrasts down to the lowest level. If you always think that you must increase volume to hear details, y...
Is My Onkyo Receiver's Tuner Dead or Just Playing Posum? Yes, tried rabbit ears (screw in coax connection) then tried the "piece of wire" antenna that came with the Onkyo -no dice. Using the "loop" AM antenna supplied by Onkyo -nd. Thanks for the suggestions...
Is My Onkyo Receiver's Tuner Dead or Just Playing Posum? I did a "factory reset" few days ago just to be sure some obscure option wasn't accidentally engaged. Checked most of your suggestions (blindjim) and the dang thing just doesn't work. I have the receiver set up next to my (brick) fireplace. Not su...
Better Sound For Free! I'd like to know: If your CD player is turned on, is the LASER active or only when you press PLAY? These things are only good for about ten years then must be replaced...
Vandersteen fans..need your input (TREO CT) I agree with tomcarr regarding room treatment. At the very least, walk around your room clapping your hands. Listen for any echoes.Tack up some foam panels (try Guitar Center or Home Depot) on ONE of the walls producing echoes. Makes a difference!
Better Sound For Free! My car always runs better after an oil change! Have you tried the "Irrational but Efficacious" tune-up CD from Ayre Audio? Performs amplitude sweeps to demagnetize your system. Seems to work well.

The Onkyo tech says the nature of the tuner is to give silence if it can't find a healthy signal. The tuning dial finds stations if I cycle up or down (never get a "stereo" lock, h...
My speaker quest From what I hear, the new Revel 228s, with beryllium and enhanced ceramic drivers will be available in February and cost around $10,000. Your local (OP) dealer may have them for audition.

Come on people....BASS! I hear school district are going to stop teaching cursive writing as it is just "too difficult" for modern youngsters to learn. Don't tell this to the kids attending "The Latin School" in Chicago. They learn Latin language as most will be doctors ...

Rate my system and chose the next upgrade I visited the Legacy factory 20 years ago and was most impressed by the "Classic" model. Very good design...
What is the ideal volume setting? Example: 1. Turn on your SPL meter. 2. Play the Calibration Track. 3. Adjust your volume until it reaches the specified SPL. 4. Enjoy the music the way the artist intended.
Most transparent power amp The best I’ve actually heard: BAT, Audio Research and MBL. Plinius and Ayre are excellent as well.
What is the ideal volume setting? I've always said that there should be a "calibration track" provided on the disk so we can set the "preferred listening level". I guess this is too hard for the recording industry. |
