SonusFaber GrandPiano Center Speakers
If I understand your description correctly, the single mid-bass one is the center from the Home series and would have been the one that orginally matched your Grand Piano Home mains. However, I never thought it was not a great center for movies, e...
Why USB to SPDIF and not optical?
Steve - I agree in principle. The comparison here is between the real time up sampling from 44.1 to 48 done by XP versus the up sampling done by my DAC. I would prefer to not use the XP upsampling because I do not think it adds anything to the cha...
Why USB to SPDIF and not optical?
Mmarvin19 - I would rather have my DAC (Musical Fidelity) do the upscaling rather than some unknown software buried in the PC. So I am looking for a simple USB to optical or coax converter that will bypass the XP upscaling. The 44.1 to 48 upscalin...
Why USB to SPDIF and not optical?
I just installed J River Media Center 13 last night and am still getting 48 MHz output on XP. I installed ASIO4ALL and upconversion still happens. I still need to do some experimenting to be sure I have everything set up correctly. Do you get 16/4...
Why USB to SPDIF and not optical?
Correction - not mapping through the device does not disable my devices, it just does not seem to stop the upsampling. The "do not use audio functions" option is the one that disables the devices. Sorry - I got the 2 options mixed up.
Why USB to SPDIF and not optical?
Steve - Let me re-phrase - "XP generally upscales 44.1 files to 48 unless special software is installed to bypasses the XP upscaling". You are correct that is not only a driver issue. Unfortunately the simple solution of unmapping the device often...
Why USB to SPDIF and not optical?
Mmarvin19 - The JRiver and ASIO configuration is one I am intertested in but have not tried yet. Can you tell if you get 44.1 MHz out of both the Belkin and the Behringer? And do both pass higher frequency without re-sampling? I check this by hook...
Wall Insulation
Insulation cuts heat loss but does little for blocking sound. You should check local code and pracice for insulation in the walls. If you want to cut down sound, then you should look at doing the ceiling with a double layer of drywall with Green G...
Why USB to SPDIF and not optical?
In addition, XP generally upscales 44.1 files to 48 unless special drives are installed. Does the 24/96 link help with that problem?
Why USB to SPDIF and not optical?
I am a little concerned about the statement that it is compatible with native Windows drivers. Do you know how the Link product interacts with XP's audio subsystem? The literature says it accepts 24/96 but I think parts of the XP subsystem probabl...
What's the best Blu-Ray player for 300.-350.
Part of the answer depends on what receiver your have. If your receiver can decode the new audio formats (DTS Master Audio and Dolby Digital TrueHD) then you can go for the less expensive versions (like Panny 35 and Sony 350). But if your receiver...
Musical Fidelity's USB Ready V DAC
I think one problem is that Musical Fidelity has the reputation of having some great products and also having some that do not hit the mark very well. They seem to experiment more than many and sometimes they miss. Makes it hard to generalize abou...
Importing a cd on itunes.
Try clicking on the header of the column with the track numbers in it. It is probably just a display issue.
Musical Fidelity's USB Ready V DAC
Dudley's review was for an integrated amp and this quote deals with how it matches with a particular high efficient speaker. He likes the integrated better with other speakers. But clearly this is not Dudley's favorite integrated. On the other han...
Musical Fidelity's USB Ready V DAC
There are a few comments about PRaT on the Head-Fi thread but there are many more comments praising the musicality. There are also some comparisons in that thread between the V Dac and the CA DACMagic 2 and my read is that the majority prefer the ...
