Cambridge 840C as a DAC Looks like you already have the 840C. If you are happy with it for CDs, you should be equally happy using it with a PC. I tried it in my system, and the sound from a CD and the PC was pretty much the same. I found it a little too detailed and "dig...
Scout drive upgrade The 300 RPM motor makes a real difference for not much money. I would start there.
Sonus Faber Cremona/JL F112 VS Sonus Faber Elipsa Congratulations on your new speakers. Sounds like you made the right decision. What electronics are you using?
Need help with Dedicated music server. Asynchronous USB DAC's do a great job of lowering jitter from the USB. They do this by basically controlling the clocking of the signal. Many DACs use re-clocking techniques on S/PDIF signals. So, if the USB to S/PDIF interface delivers bit perfec...
Need help with Dedicated music server. Blindjim - I believe the HiFace is bit perfect with MC 14 on Windows 7 using WASAPI. M2Tech is still working out issues with the driver and the latest one does not work correctly, but there is an earlier beta version that provides WASAPI support i...
Using an integrated amp for home theater set up I believe the CAP-150 has a "Separate" option (the 151 has this and I think the 150 does also), which allows you to separate the pre-amp and amp sections. The AMP input then bypasses the pre-amp section and goes directly to the amp.You can use a H...
Jazz vocals recommendations please Agree - Ella is one of a kind and a necessary part of any discussion about vocalists. Add Louis Armstrong and you have a really unique pairing. Verve Jazz Masters 24: Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong is a great start.
Jazz vocals recommendations please Check out the "Modern day female jazz recommendations" thread in the What Do You Think sticky section if you have not already. Lots of good suggestions. There are a lot of great suggestions here. For Eva Cassidy, I especially like Live at Blues All...
hardwood floor and speaker I use Lovan footers. They are thinner than many, but are made of hardened steel so seem to hold up fine. I put thin felt under them so I can move the speakers easily. Unfortuntely, they come in a pack of 6 (there stands are often 3 legged), but so...
tape out = preout ??? Looking at the manual for your integrated it specifically shows a diagram using the pre-outs to drive a sub-woofer while driving the main speakers from the speaker outputs (not pre-outs). If that does not work I would contact your dealer or Cambri...
Is hdmi a must have for home theater? Quefee - Please read the rest of my post, including the title. The part you quote is about DECODING. It should be the same in both the receiver and the player. The next paragraph is about DACs. And the third is about post-processing. Your statemen...
Sonus Faber Cremona/JL F112 VS Sonus Faber Elipsa I think the original Cremona without a sub sounds better than the Elipsa. For me, the original Cremona has the traditional full, round SF sound (even though some say it is colored) whereas the Elipsa has the new flatter, more detailed sound. Reall...
confused with HT bypass You are basically correct. This type of hybrid system takes a little more to set-up, but gives you the best of the HT technology while allowing you to maintain your traditional 2 channel system. The pre-outs of the HT receiver for the L/R go to the...
New codecs worth making a switch right now? Ndfan - actually, for Dolby Digital just moving to BR sounds better to me, even without HDMI. The bit rate is up to 640 kbits/sec which I find better than the 448 on DVDs. Whether the lossless codecs and the higher bit rate lossy tracks sound sign...
New codecs worth making a switch right now? Glad to help. I must say the whole HDMI/lossless codec situation is way too complicated. When I went to get my first HDMI system it took me forever to figure this all out. Hopefully as this becomes more commonplace it will all become easier. |
