Getting back into digital. Please help. Consider the Lector line. My 0.6 model has a true tube (12AT7) output not just a tube buffer and gives a near analog presentation for a resonable cost. It is not bright and forward but slightly dark and dynamic with very good detail.
Turntable recommendations under $1500 Origin Live Aurora MK2 - about $1350 (new)and then add your own arm. I am using a modified RB300 and Sumiko Blackbird with mine and it is dead quiet. If you can find one used it would be an even better deal but they seam to be rare on the used mar...
Billy Cobham's Spectrum The original pressing is dynamic and much superior to the CD release. I have had the original since the late 70s and still am amazed by it. Great addition to any collection.
Cartridge Alignment HELP You are correct in that some of the two point protractors require you to move them after getting a tentative alignement at the first point. The protractor you referance from enjoythemusic sould allow you to not move the protractor and the stylus t...

Best cartridge for my setup? I totally agree with Mingles about the DL-160 though I have not listened to the 2M blue to be fair. For the price the performance is excellent. I have used both the DL-160 and the DL-110 in systems and was always impressed at their performance.
Cartridge upgrade for Pro-Ject Debut 3/SB... The high output Denon Moving coils will work with your MM preamp input. The DL-110 or DL-160 are candidates for consideration.
Looking for a universal remote Second on the Logitec Harmony remotes. The 1000 was very easy to program and the graphic interface makes control simple. Priced at about $500 for the remote and $100 for the RF optional receiver if needed.
VPI hw19jr Audioquest PT-8 arm G-ring 1042 cart A comparison wold be very interesting to read. What cartrige were you using on the Technics and how did you like it? I would try the Denon DL160 at just under $200.00
Jolida 302B Your understanding of an integrated amp is correct. Unfortunatly you also need to understand that the output of a phono cartridge is a special circumstance. A MM phono cartridge's output is around 3 to 5 millivolts (MC cartridges are much less). O...
CD player connected directly to Amplifier? For a period of time I employed my Shanling CD player's variable volume direct to my amplifiers. The sound was very nice and with less interconnects and no preamp circuit seemed to increase the clarity of the signal. The down side is you cannot us...

More CD Player selection woes I aquired a Shanling T-80 about one year ago that uses two output tubes. The Chinese stock tubes projected a very bright presentation, but once upgraded to either WE396a or GE JAN5670s the player became as smooth and almost as detailed as my TT al...
Anyone Tried TUNG-SOL EL34 REISSUES? After a week of listening and tweaking the Tung Sol tubes I replaced them with my SEDs. The difference is significant. The soundstage depth has returned and the air around individual instruments is again present. The bass of the Tung Sol was a lit...
Phono Pre Amp? I agree with the idea of a tube phono pre. I presently use a AES PH1 made by the same company as Cary audio. The sound is excellent and it has enough gain for a HO moving coil or MM cartridge. There is one for sale in the classified (no relation) ... |
