Quad ESL service, Electrostatic Solutions or Quads Unlimited ?
@audio717  ??? There was a previous thread where the group apparently thought that Wayne Picquet was dead. . . he was apparently being sued by various parties for failure to deliver, and one guy said that he had died.  Regardless, I live about on...
Precision Aqueous Cleaning of Vinyl Records
Thanks for sharing this information.  I personally have an ultrasonic cleaner (standard, inexpensive VEVOR model), and that works very well for 90% of my LP's.  There are a few (interestingly some sealed, mint LP's) that despite U/S cleaning, and ...
New mat for Rega P6?
I had a Rega P8. I ended up just placing an old, thick LP on the platter, and using that as a mat.  I also just placed the LP directly on the platter.  Lots of other options, and I don't think there's a wrong choice, as I didn't hear much of a dif...
For classical music lovers best amp for large orchestral forces?
You probably need more power: try to increase your budget and increase the WPC.  200-400 WPC for starters
Mixed Brand Pre-Amp Power Amp Pairings that Work
Good equipment will sound good..just watch two things: impedance matching and voltage output on pre- and voltage sensitivity for the amplifier.
RCA Living Stereo
@audioguy85 Here is a link to a more informed thread about all the various RCA pressings, and nuances: RCA-Victor Shaded Dog / White Dog LP pressing question... | Steve Hoffman Music Forums
RCA Living Stereo
@lewm  So maybe I exaggerated slightly about RCA LP's, but only slightly:  the only label that I've heard that was a worse recording than RCA is a Supraphon LP from the former USSR, Czech manufacture. . . but they were on about equal footing with...
RCA Living Stereo
??? I don't know what you're used to listening to, but RCA is by far the absolute worst manufacturer I've ever heard on LP.  The sound quality is very poor, and the engineering is as bad.  Supposedly, the shaded dog LP's are better quality RCA LP...
How best to eliminate LP warps
@mijostyn Interesting observation about eccentric spindle hole placement: how did you measure this to confirm the degree of displacement off center? (BTW, while DGG may have misplaced their spindle hole, RCA LP's are just really bad!) Thanks.
How best to eliminate LP warps
@mijostyn @lewm @big_greg  Mockingbird no longer sells them.  I already investigated this:  they are only available from Japan as 100V.
How best to eliminate LP warps
@lewm No, if you read the print, even on @mijostyn ’s link, it says "no longer available for purchase". . . I only found it available for sale in Japan. You can find it on ebay. @mr_m The previously sold $1900 Orb was the cheap one! The expens...
How best to eliminate LP warps
@lewm I’ve looked into this, as I recently acquired alot of vinyl. Unfortunately, I’ve found that some of the Mint LP’s that I’ve bought tend to be warped, as they’ve never been opened in 60 years, but just lying around diagonally on someone’s s...
Voltage mode vs current mode phono stages
@clearthinker  Supposedly, one purported advantage of the current based phono stages is that you don't need any loading.  Some literature on the Grail SE indicates that you have options for MC loading from 40-400 ohms; however, other discussion a...
Phono Stage upgrade to complement Dohmann Helix One Mk 2
@dover Well, I finally had some time to read that review (from the links that you posted previously) of various high end phono stages, written in Chinese. I think much must’ve been lost in translation, and after reading his review of the Manley ...
Low Output MC recommendations?
For what it's worth, I haven't heard any bad LOMC:  Koetsu Rosewood Signature is very musical and worth it; Linn Krystal was very good; Linn Kandid is supposedly better; Lyra Atlas is excellent and detailed.  Supposedly, there's the $2,000 level, ...
