Greatest Rock Drummers
There is never a single "best" in any art form. Both Hendrix and Segovia are great, but they can't be compared to each other. The same is true of painters, composers, writers, etc. It's not a foot race where one will have the best time - these peo...
Any NPR Tiny Desk Studio Concert.... lovers ? on youtube
I thought it was a Slim Harpo tune. The Stones did it a bit differently, though.
Any NPR Tiny Desk Studio Concert.... lovers ? on youtube
Strangely enough, I have never heard one of these on the radio, and I listen to NPR regularly, both in the car and at home.I only see them on Youtube. Why is that, I wonder? Not all of them are good, but some are fantastic.
Nokie Edwards
I actually have a lot of their later stuff, after their popularity declined everywhere except Japan. Some of their arrangements,  both covers and originals, were mind-boggling. Well recorded, too. They didn't sell very well, though.
Marantz vs. Pioneer Receivers
In the 70s, I was a Dynaco guy, but most of my friends had Marantz receivers. Pioneer was famous at the time for car audio. Here’s an ad that helped build Marantz’s "battleship" reputation:https://images.cdn.whathifi.com/sites/whathifi.com/files/s...
Tower Records
There was recently a documentary on cable about Tower records, mostly about the California stores and Russ's management style. How they opened their Tokyo store was very interesting. Ok - I found it.https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3272570/
The ups and downs of tube vs. SS...
From my experience, you have to spend a lot to get good SS sound, whereas a cheap, beat up, vintage tube amp can sound delicious. I'm not sure about the cheap Chinese tube amps, since I've only heard one, but I'm afraid of Chinese electric items. ...
moody soundtracks
Most soundtracks do not have a consistent feel throughout due to the inclusion of a few cuts. I sometimes program my CD to skip those cuts but mostly I forget and have to push the next track button. These tracks don't fit the overall tone of the p...
Your 5 Fav Rock Concerts
I didn't know the Dead were around back then. But what a great thread! Goes back quite a ways, but not that far...
Buying an item from Canada
My experience has been that shipping from Canada can be very expensive, usually double what US shipping charges would be.
Greatest rhythm sections
@bdp24In jazz bands, the guitarist is part of the "rhythm section", especially when he's playing chords. In rock, it's a little different, but not that much. A guitar player can, and many times does, form a essential part of the rhythm if he's not...
What is the name of your system?
Right now, it's "the Leaks" since I usually call my system by the name of the power amp.Although when I had a cheapo NAD/Hafler system, I called it "the Maggies".So sometimes it gets named for the speakers.
Nad M3 non repairable
A NAD m3 is a 180 watt, dual-mono integrated that went for 3k 10 years ago?Has to be worth a grand on Ebay. I'd try to find someone to fix it for less than that.
Best Tonearm Lifter?
I've been looking at these, too, for my Rega. The Q Up gets pretty good reviews, but it's plastic and spring loaded. Very inexpensive, though, and I thought I could do better. The Nobsound (Doku?) looks the part, but it's Chinese and has an awful ...
