What Does It Take To Surpass A SME V?
syntax or not syntax you can't win. I don't think syntax is on your side. Its a German thing, everything must be correct. If you think no-one else can win, you are probably the loser.
What Does It Take To Surpass A SME V?
The 3012R sounds livelier in a pleasing way, the 4P over-damped.  The 3012R has a charm to the sound. I have set up multiple cartridges on the 4Point11 and have never heard it sound over damped. It is very quick, and quite neutral. I don't use...
What Does It Take To Surpass A SME V?
two 3012Rs, one stock and the other(better one) with silver wire and a bronze bearing. I don't know why anyone would use bronze for a knife edge bearing, it is too soft and will wear quickly.
Garrard 401 Mounting to Plinth- Isolation Washers?
I used bolts through the plinth and carbon fibre washers between chassis and plinth and between bottom nut and plinth for both 301 & 401.
Cartridge Recommendations for SME V Arm
A glider is a nicer sounding cartridge  than a frog. Much more fun to listen to.  You must have had a dud - I used to sell both - the VDH Frog is much more nuanced than the Benz Glider. +1 SoundSmith. I have a Paua mk II on my SME V. Fully ...
Experience With Linear Tracking Turntables
@lohanimal  @mijostyn speaks about the problem with lateral compliance which I’m sure is right as it makes sense - but it puzzles me that Kuzma released a silly money arm which is unusually heavy and apparently it throws the whole compliance th...
SME IV To V Upgrade, Worth It?
I’m curious as to what are the exact differences Main differences between IV and V are damping trough standard on V, optimal on IV Tracking force uncalibrated on IV Bearings - later IV's had the same bearings as the V. Wiring - copper vs ...
Rega P10/Apheta 3 connected to Luxman EQ-500.
the input impedance on the MC low setting is 2.5 ohms.  No it is not. When Luxman says the MC Low is 2.5 ohms they are referring to the cartridge's internal impedance, not the load the cartridge sees. The internal impedance of the Apheta is 10...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
says that is the best ever tonearm arm wand by its rigidity and low resonant figures but the Technics EPA 100MK2 was and is in reality the best one about by its boron arm wand that has better characteristics than sapphire  Wrong. The Technics ...
A cartridge with more bite, please and thank you
@budburma  The pivot to spindle of the Alphason is 211mm The Linn Ittok/Ekos are both 211mm pivot to spindle as well. The Ekos would be the best option if possible, the Ittok would be a sideways move vs the Alphason. Not sure on the newer Linn ...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
The original Excalibur arm was plagued with bearing issues. I know this because I used to sell the Elite Rock's. I still somewhere have a hand written 2 page letter from Max Townsend on how to fix them. The fix was not permanent though - there was...
A cartridge with more bite, please and thank you
Actually you might want to consider changing the arm. I have had several Alphasons ( HR100S )  - they are very smooth by nature. Outstanding arm, but if you want more punch you might be better off with a Linn arm. With regards to the Soundsmith P...
What's your favorite $5-7000 turntable?
I’m curious to know what agoners think about the REGA P10. It is in the OP’s price range including the tonearm. Fremers review is spot on - it's an outstanding total package solution.
What's your favorite $5-7000 turntable?
@dhcod  Sadly vacuum tables are out because of space limitations. Nowhere to put the air supply.  Then just get a non vacuum Sota with reflex clamp - it's still a great deck - under your budget. They also have refurbished units for sale from T...
Sumiko Flux Buster Demagnetizer
SUTs don’t become magnetized. It’s physics of the metals used to build SUT cores.  How so - most SUT's have some %age of iron and therefore could become magnetised. Is this the new science where the iron could identify as a non ferris unicor...
