MY SONIC LAB Cartridges
@edgewear I have only heard the MSL & Airtight. My impression is the MSL tends to sound more precise versus the Airthight which is little warmer in the midrange. Personally whilst others describe the Air Tights as more musical, romantic - I fou...

It’s still aluminum. Duralumin for a bike frame was considered...mehWrong again.duraluminum is an alloy - a composition of aluminium and other elements.https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/alloyWhy do you think a material not used in bicycle...
MY SONIC LAB Cartridges
I find that the three or four of my 20 or so cartridges that I like the best tend to sound quite the same to me if I were to close my eyes. And I like to think that this is because I am drawn to their neutrality more than anything else. In other w...

tablejockey brings up a very interesting point. Why is a multi kilobuck cartridge using a cheap aluminum cantilever? One could ask another question, what does one really get for one’s money when you buy a multi kilobuck cartridge? I don’t believe ...

Duraluminum is an outdated marketing term for.....wait for it.........aluminum. I worked in the cycling manufacturing industry years back and learned a few things about aluminum pedigree.Wrong.Duraluminum is an ALLOY of aluminium, copper, manganes...
Turntable Decision
Heard all three in the same system - SOTA easily has the most potential, and sounds the best of those 3. Also the isolation from footfalls etc with the Sota is far far superior. Its a no brainer.

@frogman @halcro The Glanz moving flux system is patented https://patents.justia.com/patent/4072823as are their stylus profiles. From my understanding it has a unique construction that provides a very linear flux density field as the cantilever mov...

@halcro I found the specs for your MFG610LXRecommended load 47kRecommended Capacitance 100pfRecommended tracking force 1.5g plus/minus 0.25gIn theory you should set your MM input to 47k and lowest capacitance possible for linear response. From wha...

@halcro Recommended VTF for the MFG61 is 1.5g plus/minus 0.25g.From memory initally I started at 1.7 due to the age of the cartridge - my rational is that the suspension can stiffen up with age ( or collapse - which will result in a low rider ) an...

@halcro Thanks for the reveal. After @frogman 's last post I thought maybe I screwed up, unless he was being devil's advocate. But alas "MM" for me is green eggs and ham. I knew "A" was a MC, as I called it, the only doubt was was it the Decca ? or ...

@halcro How are you. We are in lockdown here now, so sanding and painting is the daily routine. Tomorrow - more sanding and painting.Well they are quite different - if I was a gastronome I would describe "A" as a fine consumme, "B" as gruel. If I w...
Is the Manley Steelhead still relevant?
@drbond Thats great. I have a feeling all three power amps will benefit from the inclusion of a high quality line stage. Dont forget to use the Manley fixed ouputs when using a linestage.Have fun and good luck. Let us know how you go.Cheers.
Is the Manley Steelhead still relevant?
@drbond You should be able to get a great preamp for $30k.In my view I am sceptical of the real performance of many of the 50-100k offerings. Personally I have heard the Solution 7 series at length and quite frankly it was no more resolving than m...
Is the Manley Steelhead still relevant?
@drbond Depends on your budget. The reason I suggested the Atmasphere MP1 or MP3 is they are certain to have enough drive to match the the MA1's. I think you can get these with or without a phono included in the preamp. The Conrad Johnson ET7 up to ...
Technics SP10 MK3 Restoration
PindacIf by denified wood you mean panzerholz or lignostone then it is not stable. The stuff bends. You would need to anchor it to some other material or structure to prevent warping over time.I have seen some very expensive plinths that use panze...
