Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927? @brunorivademar All i’m saying is that with regards to that particular measurement idlers seem to have an advantage because of higher revving motors and thus less motor cogging. I have refurbished a few Garrards. I also have a vintage Exclus...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927? @mijostyn idler drives ALWAY rumble more than any other drive type. and if you had corrected subwoofers you would know that. That may be true but there are many other aspects that contribute to TT performance. I refurbished a Garrard 301...
Cartridge upgrade???? The Air Tight PC7 is great value for the money. It is a lot more refined, more natural sounding and more effortless sounding than the Hana SL. More importantly it should match your MC Bent Audio SUT very well. I would expect a big gain.
Another “How to choose an arm” question @lewm Short answer - don't know. When Peter was in NZ a few years ago we had a listening session and I heard the whole range including the strain gauge. Later on my friend bought the Paua, which is superb in my view, but I haven't done a side...
Another “How to choose an arm” question @holmz According to Soundmsith you can use a step up transformer with their low ouput MI's. A 1:10 transformer will present 470ohms to the cartridge which is about as low as you can go. A friend of mine has the Soundsmith Paua, which I really l...
TT speed @holmz but does put “another one” in the clip of the digital crowd’s ammo against analogue. I have a friend who designs DAC’s way beyond what is available publicly. His description of red book digital is "it is only a little bit out ALL of t...
Another “How to choose an arm” question @holmz Soundsmith have a range of medium output cartridges that suit phonos with 48-54db of gain. Some are low compliance, some are medium compliance. https://www.sound-smith.com/cartridges/317/medium-output https://www.sound-smith.com/cartrid...
TT speed @phoenixengr Thank you. Needless to say that a linear tracking arm is the exception here.
TT speed It also disproves your fantasy that phono cartridge tangency affects frequency. I have never claimed that. What I have said is that the stylus on a pivoted arm, for each 1.8 seconds, deviates from the position of the cutter head at the same ...
TT speed Everywhere at any point on this LP, the 1000Hz test tone has been encoded by a perfect cutter lathe. In practice, the stylus tip is just a point on the surface of the LP; it doesn't "know" where it was a fraction of a second before or after any ...
TT speed @cleeds Your belief is easily disproved with a test record - it’s easy to measure the frequency of a test tone on an LP. We've already shown that measurements reveal it doesn't exist. It's easy to measure a 1 kHz tone on a test record. Unf...
TT speed Assuming a perfect test record, you could playback a pure 1kHz tone from the beginning of the LP to the end. Any deviation would be the result of the turntable’s w&f, not any "translocation of the stylus." That statement is not correct. Ho...
SME 309 or SME 3009r? @dekay The effective mass of my SME 3009II (non-improved/detachable head shell) is 12.5 grams. Yes I was referring to the more common Series II improved - 6.5g effective mass and S2 improved - effective mass 9.5
SME 309 or SME 3009r? For the great uneducated in this thread - as @neptune123 pointed out the SME 3009R is a totally different model to the SME 3009. SME 3009 - light arm for medium to high compliance cartridges. SME3009R - medium mass arm - stainless steel arm tub...
SME 309 or SME 3009r? @pesky_wabbit I trialled a MkIV on my Rock tt and was rather underwhelmed, although it did some things very well. The dealer told me that the IV was a bit of a dud and that I really should listen to a V. This is nonsense. The later SME IV h... |
