Upgrade SUT For Denon DL103 The Altec 4722 based MC step ups run particularly well with the Denon 103, better than the A23 in my view. Haven’t compared to the Homage though. Also don’t underestimate the classic Denon S1 step up. Although I haven’t heard it, a super high end...
Top linear trackers Look at the manifold, an inverted ‘v’ as opposed to a circular tube in most other cases. It is an inherently more stable ( no tendency to roll ) platform for the cartridge / wand assembly to glide on. Actually thats misleading. Although it uses...
hana sl or one of the AT-ART9? @stone1 The van den hul DDT/MC one have a very relaxed presentation, but dig deep. You can hear right into subtle detail, without the sound becoming bass heavy or bright - they are pretty neutral. They are beautifully balanced, allowing you to h...
hana sl or one of the AT-ART9? I wouldn't buy either of those cartridges. For similar money I would recommend the Van den Hul MC One or Van den Hul DDT. Alternately the Dynavector XX1 is also very good. Much more refined than either the Hana or ART.
Rega Planar 3 RB880 Upgrade Worth It? I would say upgrade the TT - and I have heard a Rega P5 with full groove tracer mods. However, if you want to upgrade the arm as an interim measure, yes the RB880 should make an improvement in precision, timing, etc. Alternatively have a look at...
Sound color with different jumper materials, @audiosens Now, I can hear the singer breathing, but before, it was as if inside the loudspeaker, the fluidity of the music was fighting, because of the bad connection of the loudspeaker and jumper wires. Now it's so much more alive, my moderat...
How do I get the best soundstage? Firstly for the Volti speakers get rid of the Pass integrated - it is as dry as a bone - look at tube power amps. Secondly for analogue front end, in my view you should prioritise a very good phono stage, the best you can afford - you can always ...
Sound color with different jumper materials, On some Von Schweikert speakers the recommendation was to run the speaker cables to the high frequency, and then jumpers to the low frequency. It sounded a lot better that way on those speakers. Alternately if you are not bi-wiring, eliminati...

Another “How to choose an arm” question @holmz Excellent tonearm, should fit the Sota. The Kuzma 4Points are very quick, transparent and importantly very easy to set up and adjust. It would be a massive upgrade on your SAEC - more detail, quicker, more dynamic. The 4Point is a medium...
Please Help T3F problems @scotchboy Yeah Ivor was pretty funny. The Ittoks have "soft bearings" and they recommended taking the arm off to install a cartridge so the bearings don't get damaged. Now I know why. Actually the Ittok is underrated - it does work with a wide ...
Frank Kuzma is releasing a new arm! @mijostyn @dover, You have your tonearm geometry mixed up. The 4 Point is a neutral balance arm. It will stay in whatever position you put it in. VTF stays constant regardless of position. Wrong. Here’s Michael Fremer in hs review of the 4...
Please Help T3F problems @scotchboy Actually you should not add mass to the Ittok headshell if you run the Koetsu Onyx on the Ittok. I had a customer with Linn/Sumiko MDC800/Koetsu Onyx Gold - sounded superb. The MDC800 is only 11g effective mass. The Ittok LVII is 1...
SME New Turntable Presentation Nice machining. Good to see they have gone to AC motor which has benefits over DC in speed stability. Don't see how the honeycomb finish improves the sound - does up the cost. The arm tube is interesting. Separating the transformer into anothe...
Frank Kuzma is releasing a new arm! Looks like a winner to me. Effective mass is 60g. Since you have eschewed high effective mass tonearms in all your previous posts, what has changed ? or did you miss that fact ? I thought the 4 Point 9 was a better design than the SAT arms ... |
