Is using streaming services worthy of an audiophile? As Shadorne has said, some DACs display the incoming signal. The bottom line is what type of sound quality you can get from your rig. I can get sensational sound quality from steaming Tidal's upper quality service through ROON. But, to get the mos...
Is using streaming services worthy of an audiophile? Yes, yes, and no.
Looks like a new Magnepan speaker is coming!!! Ah, $29K; they are moving toward Vandersteen territory, breaking out of the pure value play. They may, and I say that cautiously as there is no certainty as to the innards, be finally building a true extreme speaker.
How important is component “aesthetics” to you? You are not an audiophile if the faceplates on your gear are not at least 3/8" thick.
Mega amps - low IMP speakers, where is all this headed and why So, what are you actually going to buy?
Looks like a new Magnepan speaker is coming!!! If so, it's one of the smartest moves they have made. However, their reputation as an affordable speaker company is on the line. ;) I would guess the MSRP about $20K. Now they really need to start considering a small form factor version of this fo...
Your advice to speakers designers inna, I'm not out to make you an enemy. If I offended you, my apologies. However, I think you need to consider some other perspectives, not merely those which agree with you. :)
Your advice to speakers designers As a reviewer my advice to manufacturers; ignore 99% of this thread and carry on. Many of the suggestions show a cheapness, a belief that cheaper is as good or better. This is a beautiful way to dumb down the audiophile experience. At the same tim...
Is it possible to buy a decent tube amplifier in the $2000-3000 range? Imo get rid of the speakers. They are not efficient; they are like pushing a brick, like a Magnepan. It would take a crapload of power/current to make them sound lively. By looking for an inexpensive tube amp you are setting yourself up for margin...
Vandersteen In this particular instance you would be wasting your money to allocate it toward electronics when for $2K you could move from the 2CE to the 3A. That from a former 2CE owner. If I were in your position and could afford the 3A I wouldn't dream of ...
Linking xlrs together I have many times linked two XLR cables, and while theoretically there is loss, I suspect that unless you were conducting side by side comparison of, say, 2x1.5 versus 1x3 you would not hear a difference, and perhaps not even in direct comparison....
Quad ESL 57 playing Prince No, with a vintage Quad your reservations are "bass-less"! ;)
Obscure brands worth considering As someone who has been down the road of procuring obscure/vintage speakers, you can consider them without the attendant risks, but it's foolish to do so.
Is it the beer or do speakers/electronics really need some extended warm-up period? mesch, it might be reasonable, but in the comparisons of gear I conducted it was not audible. i.e. it's not significant
Is it the beer or do speakers/electronics really need some extended warm-up period? physus, you asked some good questions; I believe most will be answered in my article. |
