Mint Tractor Executive Summary: HOLY MOTHER OF @$!!!I couldn't wait for Saturday to "Mint" my setup, so I did it Friday night. We had the Olympics on and I spent the evening jumping between TV and TT. Not the most focused approach and certainly not the fastest...
Ever demag a cart this way? As Stringreen says, check with your cartridge manufacturer first. Quite a few (Van del Hul and ZYX for instance) will void your warranty if any active demagging has been done.Cardas LP demag sweeps. Simple, harmless, cheap, effective.
Mint Tractor Just received ours yesterday. No time to realign yet, but it looks as precise as other users have described. Nice tight fit on the spindle - too bad none of my LP's is drilled this accurately! ;-)One technical correction to Yip's (excellent) instr...
Upgrade for users of 1/2" mylar belt Hi Livemusic,Thanks for sharing your results, and glad you were able to hear the profound (indeed) differences that result from optimizing the motor-platter coupling. It's obvious when you think about it, but hearing is believing.Of course the bes...
Suggestions for an effective record cleaning kit?? Some of us (probably most of the regulars on this forum) would disagree about Disc Doctor. The enzyme based fluid systems from AIVS and Walker outclean DD by a wide margin, and are also far easier to rinse off without leaving a residue. The DD brus...
I'm taking a poll... A. For optimal tonearm transitions over warps.B. For optimal sonic reproduction of the waveforms carved in the grooves. C. For optimal ease of mind, assuming you're comfortable with false assumptions.;-)
Turntable setup In addition to Fremer's DVD, read the FAQ's articles at Vinyl Asylum. There are fewer knowledgeable people posting there now than there were several years ago, but the FAQ's are a good resource. BTW, if you compare those articles carefully you'll ...
Anyone experienced with Sound Guard? Not on my LP's, like they said ^^^Optimal LP playback is achieved when the playback stylus traces the identical path as was traced by the cutting stylus. Gunking up the groove surfaces with *anything* necessarily interferes with that goal. One goo...
Cartridge/Phono-Pre Break-in? Hi Stringreen,It's been well documented on this and other forums for years that *some* Shure gauges were/are actually manufactured from magnetically sensitive steel. Think about what that means for accuracy when used in proximity to the powerful m...
Mistracking zyx after hibernating? Excellent advice from all the above and yes, your 4D's suspension has firmed up from 6 months of non-use. My UNIverse can firm up audibly and require a slight VTF adjustment after a few hours of non-use, never mind months.Run it in on the Cardas t...
Cartridge/Phono-Pre Break-in? I'm unfamiliar with your components, but all cartridges change with break in, some more than others and in different ways of course. A constricted frequency range is very typical in a new cartridge. They often need some hours to open up, at both e...
Feickert analogue protractor....Owners impressions Our Mint-tractor is on the way, should arrive this week. Note: the price is going up to 110USD on 8/31.Yip also mentioned he was including two slices of Magic Eraser, and provided a link to one of my own posts on how to use it! ;-)
Trouble tracking new Norah Jones LP Swampwalker,Why not drop by with this infamous LP some day? It'd be interesting to see if our rig would track it.
Anyone muffel a VPI 16.5 Mark,What an ingenious suggestion! I suggest you develop a retrofit kit. you might get rich. :-)
