Where to find 'good sounding' resistors?
C'mon Dan, you know the answer to that! There's no such thing as a resistor that sounds best in every applicaton. Not Vishays and not anything else. Nick uses Vishays to load our phono inputs but he uses other resistors in other places in the circu...
Walker Vortex Vacuum Wand for VPI
I don't own a VPI, but if I did I'd buy this tube in a heartbeat. Rushton's description makes perfect sense, this wand should yield some of the benefits of the string machines like my Loricraft at a tiny fraction of the cost. (The VPI is still noi...
When cantilever not parallel to cartridge sides
Your estimate of 20% (72 degrees!) is difficult to imagine for a new cartridge, or a used cartridge, or anything other than a completely, utterly and irretrievably trashed-because-it-got-run-over-by-a-truck cartridge. No cantilever would bend anyw...
2008 RMAF – – – all things analog.
Suggestion to all attending Cello's welcome gathering, save your name tag and wear it the next day. I know we'll all have show name tags, but the sight of a different one lets you know that the wearer is probably another A'goner.HI HO! HI HO!IT'S ...
2008 RMAF – – – all things analog.
Dan,I'm holding the Andalusians out as an incentive for Larry to visit! (Nudge...)That LP's too rare to risk bringing to a show, and ours is a first pressing. (Maybe the only pressing?!) Not bad for $3, eh? Thom,Thanks for the tips on how to make ...
Advantages of upgrade from VPI 16.5 RCM
Sonofjim analyzed the situation well. The machines you mentioned all use the same basic technology, a vacuum wand straddling the record surface, covered with "felt" to prevent scratching. This limits performance compared to the differently designe...
2008 RMAF – – – all things analog.
It's unfortunate that for the most part, systems with low noise floors don't get to strut their stuff at shows because of this. Subtlety, to a large extent is lost. That's always been our fear, and somewhat explains why we've never gone to a show....
Need proper sequence for cleaning records
Proper sequence for anything: ask questions first, purchase second.I'll cast another vote for the AIVS fluids. The Mofi Enzyme solution also works pretty well. I haven't tried the Walker, but it's based on similar concepts and many report good res...
why does lp have light surface scratch after play?
Did the arm skip across the record? If it did, many things could be at fault. I wouldn't trust any professional installation these days. The number of shops who actually know their way around a vinyl rig is much smaller than it used to be. Learn t...
2008 RMAF – – – all things analog.
Don't worry Dan, you'll be represented.Just Fedex me two key lime pies and I'll share them around!!! Ralph,If you can tweak that remote so it operates the TriPlanar, I'm in!
2008 RMAF – – – all things analog.
Paul and I will be there, our first RMAF and we're looking forward to meeting some of the people we share with via the internet and email.
What would I get out of damping fluid?
Damping fluid is tonearm/cartridge specific. I'm sure Stringreen described accurately how it effects his VPI/Benz. I'm sure Johnnyb53 described accurately what he hears on whatever rigs he's tried it on. That doesn't make their findings universal....
reserve vta solves issue on zyx, triplaner
SirSpeedy,I'm doing this from work. You don't think I'd waste valuable toothpaste-packing time, do you?!
reserve vta solves issue on zyx, triplaner
Something's wrong. There's no way you should have to lower the back of the arm that much with a UNIverse (or any other cartridge I can think of). I hope your fear about a deteriorating suspension is wrong.
Is your image centred?
I agree with both Stringreen and Dan_Ed. Most pop music recordings are multi-miked, multi-tracked and mixed (up) in post-production engineering. The end result is typically an imaging and soundstaging mish-mash, and the better the playback system ...
