A prospective Teres owner with questions
Hi Greg,Twl heats with wood, so he probably owns an axe. I've also heard he owns a Rotweiler. You wanna be careful around here.I agree with his advice and will add this:1) Unless you drop it a Teres is pretty break proof, except for what I wrote y...
Please critique my new DIY stylus cleaning system.
Why baking soda? Not odor control I trust. ;)Even with lots of rinsing I'd worry about residue buildup, on the cantilever more than the stylus.Twl is currently reviewing my new stylus cleaner. If he likes it as much as I do I'll post a thread. In ...
VTF on-the-fly for OL Silver, really
Thanks, Tom. The inventor has a Ph.D. in metallurgy. Bet he never imagined he'd be "famous" for twiddling a paper clip. OTOH, Paul's first patent had something to do with a bucket of water and a tea strainer as a model for improving copper casting...
Did I damage my cartridge?
Scott,You may indeed have bent/damaged the cantilever or suspension. Try to find someone with the same cartridge and get them to send or post a photo so you can compare cantilever angles. If it isn't obvious by now, NEVER apply more downforce to a...
OL silver vs. Clearaudio Unify
Johnnantais,Totally agree on the value of aesthetics. If I had the funds I'd probably get a Basis Vector. That arm certainly satisfies in aesthetics/BQ and seems to have suitable engineering to handle a Shelter or most any cartridge.Even if the ma...
VTF on-the-fly for OL Silver, really
You're right Zaikesman, it's a piece of art. We didn't bother to make the paper clip perfectly straight before re-forming it into the "U", so it's a little squiggly. It ain't no stinkin' Morch or SME, lemme tell ya. :)I was a bit worried about res...
Clueless and Seeking advice on TT purchase
The question remains, just who would get banged for your buck?!
OL silver vs. Clearaudio Unify
Joel, Nothing lame about aesthetics. We both fell for the Teres 265 and I'm certainly not ashamed of that! A Moerch DP6 or Basis Vector might answer all our concerns, but not at a price you or I could stomach.I agree the OL arms look pretty humble...
OL silver vs. Clearaudio Unify
John, Thanks for the kind references. I don't have your broad personal experience with arms and cartridges, but I certainly believe you that very few combos can track those silly cannons. I imagine even fewer can do so and also display a high degr...
Help me choosing turntable
Hate to say it, but I agree with Jphii!
OL silver vs. Clearaudio Unify
Hi Joeljoel,I don't know anyone who's tried a Shelter on a Unify, so the following is my attempt at deductive reasoning. ;)Several people both here and on VA have tried a Shelter on other unipivots. Of those, Graham 2.x users seem happiest and Spa...
Say it aint so--- Teres quality question
Well, I have a fabulous two-LP set of Narcisco Yepes playing Bach's lute music. His theorbo-lute had cocobolo pegs. Does that count? :)I'm envious of you musicians. When I sing in the shower the soap even runs away.
Tonearm/Cartridge combo for Thorens TD 150 MkII
runkster,John is giving you great advice. The rest of your system is world's beyond a beat up thrift TT, obviously, so you will indeed hear the benefits of a decent arm like a Rega.Of course there's real danger that you'll soon hear the limits of ...
which type of sink for record washing
Ttrhp,The GroovMaster mentioned by Audiotomb and Dekay protects the label. Everyone posting on this thread probably has one, thanks to a tip from 4yanx many months ago.Go to Ebay and search for GroovMaster (sic). You can buy direct from the guy fo...
VTA setting up.....how do I find level?
For the longest time I thought the 901 stylus shape was peculiar too. But in fact it simply has a tendency to rapidly build up crud where the stylus meets the underside of the cantilever. Properly cleaned you can see that it's shaped like a sharp ...
