help with arm types DtM,Just joking about the digital thing of course, though with such a nice rig you already knew that! One of the good things about the OL arms, much like yours, is that there AREN'T a lot of dials and buttons to fuss with. Get the setup right, loc...
help with arm types Dennis, I'd add to what Twl wrote except that I can't. As usual he summarized everything very well. That's a pretty nice cartridge shortlist. They're all relatively low in compliance, keep that in mind when thinking about arm types. Check my system...
Schroeder versus Tri-Planar Patrick, just looked at your TT. Seems to be pretty well named, solid indeed! Looks like a cross between a top Clearaudio, a Redpoint/Galibier and Transformers. ;)I've read Basis Vector/Graham/Nort AirTangen comparisons on VA. Mostly in favor of t...
Music Maker II cartridge Tom, Thanks for another informative thread. I know you've always liked the Denon 103R + stepup for higher mass/gimballed arms. The MM II costs about the same, so now there's a solution for lower mass/unipivot arms. Cool.Throwback, Welcome to the T...
Schroeder versus Tri-Planar "... I heard from my friends, that the Teres is a nice table, but far from being outstanding."Wow! Let's gratuitously insult Patrick's TT - even though he didn't ask, even though we've never heard one. Thomas, do you still beat up smaller kids on ...
Schroeder versus Tri-Planar How about an OL Illustrious or Signature? Not as pretty as any of those others I'll admit, but its sonics should be exactly what you're after. I have the relatively lowly Silver, with Twl's mod. It seems quite neutral and a wonderful match for my ...
Turntable suggestions Look at the Nottingham Horizon too, $1K without arm or $1200 with Rega RB250. Users love them above some other entry level TT's and the RB250 can be modded fairly inexpensively when the upgrade bug bites. Should keep your attention for years.Enjoy!
Denon 103 EIFL in Japan sells the 103R for around $277 last time I looked, including freight.
Teres update Joe,Glad to hear you're making progress! In your spare time :) you might check out www.theanalogdepot.com. It's the home page of a guy who built an acrylic Teres in 2002. Lots of details and photos.
Goldring 1042 or Rega Exact You have no business having a wife in this hobby. Perhaps the "diamond for you, toy for me" approach is in order. :)
Goldring 1042 or Rega Exact While Psychicanimal is 100% correct, it's possible Mmowry may not have funds available for a TT at this time. If that's the case I can't imagine any TT, new or used, that would significantly better a P3 for the price of a G1042 or Exact. His four y...
DC v AC In addition to Jimbo3's points there's this crucial one: all AC motors have cogs. At each cog the motor gives the spindle a little push. Between cogs the spindle just coasts along, losing speed to friction of course, until it reaches the next cog....
Universal Players. Marantz 8400 vs.Denon 5900 Lenarrd, interesting info about Underwood using Chris Johnson. I always assumed Wall did the mods himself. No matter I suppose, he has a great reputation.Wally will mod a unit you send to him or sell you a pre-modded one. I got an email from him l...
Columbia Masterworks's 6 eyes..and others..new LP' I have that XRCD too, definitely one of the best. I'm probably going to buy the 45rpm Classic Records reissue. Pretty expensive but that performance and recording are worth it.
Columbia Masterworks's 6 eyes..and others..new LP' Nice finds, but you listened to them ALL last night? Wow, you must be toast today! :)Like Tim said don't worry that some of them are mono. Just the reverse perhaps. Some of the RCA LM's have better detail and presence than the same # in the stereo... |
