Shelter 90X?
KK,The 90X is a new model above the 901. Somewhere around $2700 I think. Here's an ad (which hasn't changed in months):http://show.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/shm.pl?anlgcart&1059705304&item&Audiorevelation&4&5&6&http://cgi.au...
Is there a SS amp that can offer tube bliss?
1. Probably not, though I love the sound of my c-j SS amp coupled with a c-j tube preamp. Best of both worlds?2. You might get more or better responses on the amp forum. Most of us analog addicts just use a big horn mounted on top of the needle. ;)
Gruve Glide
Colitas, I haven't tried Gruv-Glide, but I think you may be approaching things in the wrong order. Vacuum cleaning will do far more for your records than spraying Gruv-Glide, or anything else, on top of the dirt. There is no safe way to play dirty...
Venturing into Vinyl - Phono Stage Questions
Albert, my partner has actually been considering going for a much higher end CDP than our current Arcam. I think I'll show him your comment, might save us a bundle of money. Thanks!
A Simple Test
Joe,Go to http://www.mccormicksnet.com/mccormicks/tapes.htm and see the last item on the page, Mylar streamers. That's the source Chris Brady uses and recommend. Lots of colors available to suit your designs. So how much does a CNC router cost? I a...
A Simple Test
Thanks Joe. I'm not too worried about the mylar, I have a 100' roll of the stuff. But a nasty residue on my cocobolo platter? No thanks! Sounds like it would poison the cats too.I don't have any motor noise (as you know) and it's not like I have a...
A Simple Test
Jimbo3, Automotive fan belt dressing to improve drive belt traction? Now THAT interests me. Any idea how well it would adhere to a mylar drive belt? Could it wear off and leave a residue around the platter?

If your female vocalists are accompanied by a purse or toe, you've got problems even a new Basis Reference wouldn't solve.
Is impedence so important for a pick/phono combo?
Zender... Yes, there is, but you may not like it.Listen to your cartridge in your system in your room with your ears, at different loads. Find the load that sounds best. Sorry, but ultimately it's the only way. The experiences of others and perhap...
Venturing into Vinyl - Phono Stage Questions
Welcome to another reformed digi-phile, and kudo's to Albert for showing another music lover the way. Of course he doesn't really fight fair does he. Maybe he should buy a Meitner to be more evenhanded. If you go with seperates you'll be paying fo...
Sell or keep my Turntable
Have you sold your TT and later regretted it?- No, but we stopped listening to LPs in 1985 when we got sucked in by the convenience of CD's. Fifteen years and 800 CDs later we realized we had pretty much stopped listening to music altogether. We c...
ultrasound cleaning?
Ogsarg and Mr. Kidknow,MANY thanks for your input. As one who has been interested in the pending U/S RCM from BentAudio since it was first announced, I'm paying close attention. I'm going to point this thread out to John Chapman so he can consider...
Teres update - After Week One
My bearing/spindle are grounded, yet I still get *some* static buildup on the record during play. My wood platter is not conductive enough to make a good path to ground, so the static builds up until released... into me! I suspect an acrylic platt...
Optimal Loading for Shelter 501 mk2
Williamdc,Yes, my MM phono stage has the normal 47Kohm load. The resistor posts on the BentAudio stepups are wired across the secondary. The load is reflected back through the transformer, which in my case is wired for 20db of gain. We are current...
Optimal Loading for Shelter 501 mk2
David, You want guesses? I got guesses.First"Within" seems to me like typical translated Japanese, for who the hell knows what. ;)SecondWhether the transformer is physically inside or outside a preamp is obviously irrelevant. If it's between the c...
